British Citizenship Test | How Well Do Brits Know Their Geography?

Intelligence is to do with resolving difficult problems. Memory is of course a part of that but having a memory for a lot of various information which doesn't help with problem solving does not.

I went to school in Yorkshire (in England for those who don't know). Despite having "geography" lessons throughout school, I basically had to teach myself where countries and cities are located on a map. I guess that entire part of school was a complete waste of time. I worry that others haven't made the same effort I have. Please understand these people were let down by the education system. I hope things will change.

It's because they don't teach children properly anymore.

My father used to sit me in front of a globe if the world and point to random countries and I would have to name the country and its capital city.

Now we hand out diplomas for learning how to use toilet paper whilst the knowledge of the world around them is left in ignorance.

I had a lawyer friend who was top of his year at university yet he had to come to me to get a shirt ironed because he couldn't do it himself. This example highlights the point I'm making. It's OK to have a professional, well paid job but what's the point if you can't even do yourself beans on toast.

I don't think they did too badly. At least they got basics right. But nobody really knows too much about their home country; in any country people are more interested in learning about different cultures and countries. Why not show the people who clearly got it right? Just showing the bad ones for views. Can be done for any country. Geography teaching has really improved in the UK over the last decade.

This can be done with any country and you'll find the same results. People interested in geography will only know major things about it, however, these kids did not some basic things and they did alright. You clearly cherrypicked (this is done for many countries - all cherrypicked only showing the bad people!). I expected better from you BBC.

Man, I live in Cumbria, not that anyone would know where that is, so just in the north of England. Plus, I go to one of the worst public schools in the country, yet I could answer all of those questions. Can I walk off a cliff yet?

How can people be so ignorant? How could you not be able to place Cardiff at least inside Wales? How could you think the Scottish/English border extended south of Wales? The thing about these sort of clips though is that they edit out the majority who aren't complete morons. I hope.
