SO Helpful! I used to have a process using levels and layer masks in groups which was incredibly annoying to finely control specific tones in Black and White film scans (especially for recovering flat under-developed film). I will just be doing this for now on.

You can do something very similar in Lightroom. Make a Luminance range mask and drag the sliders of the box, left and right, until you have the desired mask. Fuzziness is created by dragging the small triangels below the box Then do what you like to the masked area, brighten, sharpen aso.

Again this demonstrates why even as an Adobe Photography Plan subscriber I never go into PS even though its available to me, choosing to do as much as I can on my photos in LRC. Everything in PS is complicated and non intuitive as far as I`m concerned.
