The 80's were the best! Some of the 90's were ok. I did like Remote Control. After that I only watched the awards shows.

If you were alive and still remember 1999-2001 … those ads were INSANE! I was about 8 by this time, and MTV was my favorite late night channel for the music. By 2002, there weren’t many music videos being played late at night anymore, and if they did the ads were after every 2 videos.

Imagine calling a show that ran for over a decade by the wrong name & not fixing it in post-editing 😂
America's 'best' Home Videos. Not 'funniest', 'Best'.. like he didn't grow up watching it... WOW.

Is it really MTV's problem? It seems the rise and fall follows the US cultural and economic relevance.
I mean, they reached all-time low in 2016.

People who got to be teenagers in the 50s,60s,70s or 80s had the best lives. Not only did they get to live without cell phones and social media but they got to live during a time when making money was easy. 80% of Americans today earn less than 5k a month. The average middle class to lower middle class house costs 250-400k. That means 80% of Americans will never earn enough money to buy a home. White women taking 50% of all the jobs that pay over 70k a year and only marrying men who make more than they do is the reason why the middle class in America is disappearing. Women don't talk about wanting 50% of the jobs that earn 35k a year which is the average salary for a person with a college degree. Chinamen are also to blame for buying houses in the US and then renting those houses to Americans for thousands of dollars a month while never setting foot in the United States. The housing market needs to decrease by 70% and thats the true value of every home. 100% of houses in the US are way overpriced and nothing will get better until the prices drastically drop. It will help 95% of Americans. Only people and businesses who own hundreds or thousands of properties will lose money, but who cares about them. They have been getting rich at the expense of everyone else forever. When a 500k home drops to 150-200k all of a sudden people can buy a nice house to live in. Being able to buy a decent home for 100k is exactly what the US needs.

I lay some blame for America's social decline on MTV's shoulders. Like the frog in the boiling pot, MTV steadily devolved into social decay. They belong in the Hall of Shame.

MTV was the sheet back in its hay day for it's music videos. I got hook on Real World and Road Rules too. Then of course the music slowly faded away.

It is interesting that you find the best MTV was when they had all those shows and not music. Well, you belong to a younger generation. I remember MTV for the time in the 80s and early 90s when it was just music. Well, I am older than you. Way older...

We won't see MTV shows on paramount because it's behind a paywall? Cable is literally a pay wall.. the most expensive one at that. They're better off with paramount

Watching that i have to say that MTV Europe was quite a different beast in the late '80s and 90's. Music (almost all kinds), great live shows (MTV Most Wanted), a lot of good cinema, art, fashion even Formula 1. That was class. 👍

The reason me and my friends stopped watching MTV was primarily due to MTV playing almost only rap videos, so we started watching mtv2 to see videos of bands we liked, THEN mtv2 started playing almost only rap videos, THEN we started watching MTVX to see videos of bands we like and I'll be damned if MTVX started playing only rap videos. They had 3 channels playing the same videos.

They brought back various music blocks on MTV Germany such as Headbangers Ball, Alternative Nation or Party Zone. Idk if it got more people to watch the channel again but I watch every week Party Zone and Chill Out Zone from 1am to 5am on fridays, it has lots of obscure and interesting stuff that keeps me awake.

As someone born in 1990 who grew up with so much of this culture it's a little heartbreaking. I was the first generation born in the US and I went to MTV to bathe in the music and pop culture from my time and before. And I personally loved MTV2, especially when they played blocks dedicated to a specific artist. It was a way to see old or underground stuff from the artist before they were discovered. They really fucked up on their 40th anniversary though. Like have some dignity dude lol

I still remember my older cousins watching the real world , i had yo be around7 or eight years old.

Sadly MTV is garbage now and the producers and creators show who they serve, blatant satanic crap everywhere.
