As usual clear explanation of the subject. Great mechanic
ОтветитьCan we avoid the vvti rattle by timely oil changes?
ОтветитьWhat caused the premature fail emproper oil change enterval or what 🤔
ОтветитьSo glad I found this channel
ОтветитьIs their an inspection port for the timing chain or you have to pull a cover ??? Thanks
ОтветитьDrive around with your window down, you can hear all the vehicles that have one foot in the scrapyard. A guy at work drove his taco until the pistons and valves were introduced. It sounded like a hydraulic scavenging pump beforehand.
ОтветитьAbout 150k miles, and the scrapyards start to fill up with people's vehicles that think timing chains don't have a service life!🤣
Chain stretches every time it goes around.
Great explanation very detailed.Thank you.
ОтветитьYou don't replace a timing chain especially in a Toyota. It is nonsense. You will never find a reason to replace the chain unless you are getting an issue as this with some noise and if the chain stretches a bit after overheating. They will stretch by thousands of an inch and cause some very slight smells from the car and exhaust types of fumes will be your number one symptom. The vvti gear is important and the chain stretching happens. This is one of maybe three types of fails you will get from these motors.
ОтветитьI have a 2008 Toyota Highlander and it rattles everytime except in the first start in the morning since Toyota chain last how would my mechanic know exactly if it does? Would they actually take off the whole cover or just the side part off to see if the marks still visible?
ОтветитьThat's great. Thank you.
ОтветитьMy used 2012 5.7 Tundra timing chains failed. Bought 1 year ago. Oil was mostly changed mostly on time until maybe the 3rd owner roughly around 95k miles. Valve covers seeping oil slightly, small coolant leak at front of motor, bypass coolant area. Seized drivebelt tensioner bolt.
ОтветитьThanks again for another informative video.
Ответитьawesome video
ОтветитьI replace the timing chain if I need to remove it for another repair. Ie head gaskets or engine builds.
ОтветитьYou only replace a t timing, chain when you want to get a bigger cam it it Oh, wait, we're talking about Toyota it's a boring car there is no bigger cam for it
Ответить❤
ОтветитьI have an oil leak on my 2005 Avalon with 216k miles. It’s coming from the timing chain gasket so I might as well change my timing chain. But I never noticed any major issues but the oil leak
ОтветитьQuestion - 2005 Toyota Avalon just shut off. Won't start. Mechanic says the timing chain skipped. What is the likelihood a new engine is needed and not just a timing chain replacement?
ОтветитьSo did Toyota do a recall?
ОтветитьOutstanding video! 👍
ОтветитьI feel like this video sends mixed signals. You don't need to change the timing chain.... unless you have to and this piece is why. So then how often should we have the chain inspected then?
ОтветитьI am not a mechanic but i have removed and reinstalled timing chain on different Corolla 1.8 engines. Usually I visually inspect and measure the chain, as well as look at chain guides. I did replace a head gasket and replaced the chain as well. Motor had 203,000 miles. I also replaced the tensioner and valve stem seals. An extra 150 bucks for the kit was worth the insurance. The amazing thing about the video is how do you remove the VVT i gear without removing the front cover. On the 1.8 engine there isn't enough room to get a wrench in there. Just speaking from experience. When i did remove the chain guides, they were in excellent shape, slighty grooved.
ОтветитьNot a Toyota but my wife’s Vw beetle with the 1.2 tsi engine on 98k miles is having a new chain fitted in the new year after my mechanic noticed the rattle on start up .
ОтветитьIve been experiencing a rattling noise during acceleration but once i get to speed and stay constant i cant hear it. At idle it is also quiet. Could this be it?
Ответить"Well, as long as I'm here, might as well...". A good guiding principle for working on vehicles, especially older/higher mileage ones.
ОтветитьThank you very much!!!!!
ОтветитьToyota timing belts are just the same high quality material, 2001 Tacoma 3.4L TRD 4X4 315k still running strong, driveline still OEM.
ОтветитьCan i just replace that top guide when i do a valve cover?
ОтветитьThanks 😊 good info, very interesting...
Ответить"When we moved over to timing chains".... never should have moved over from them to begin with.
ОтветитьI love your show and expertise , i have Lexus RX 400H 2006
with 388.000 KM on it replace my timing bell at 205.000 KM and now i have 388.000 km
went do you think i should replace it again , thank you .
Great information, I’ve been too busy to replace the chain in my daughter’s GX470, we put 140k on it since we bought it a few years back. The sticker says it was changed at 90k, it now has 270k on the 4.7 so this chain has 180k on it, it runs great, uses no oil. She’s 18 and I let her drive it last weekend on a 8 hr road trip, since he momma has a week old Tacoma she didn’t really want to part with for 4 days 😂
ОтветитьI have a 2010 Honda civic that has 110 KM. I wonder how long it will last.
ОтветитьThe 80's model Toyota pick-ups with the 22R-E were known for timing chain stretching issues, I had an 86 pick-up that i replaced chain due to that issue at 125,000 miles!
ОтветитьAMD is the best technician I've ever had the pleasure of checking out. When my Tacoma needs service, I'll push my truck from New Jersey to Chicago just for him to renew. There are no German mechanics there, and that's for sure.
ОтветитьQuality as always. Thank you!
ОтветитьTiming chains do get changed
Ответить250k mi on a 2007 Corolla 5 speed Without any noises at cold start or any time...Why not change All timing components and chain now as preventative maintenance? Desire to keep this car as long as possible.
ОтветитьAwesome 👏
ОтветитьI just bought an 09 Lexus es350 two weeks ago n and this is the only channel I’ve watched for the last month
ОтветитьWhat about Timing chain elongation ? I have a Rav4 D-CAT engine. 170.000 Km. I removed the chain and it gives me 149.4 mm distance between 16 links. Whereas Toyota says that maximul elongation should be 144.3mm. My car goes often in the Mountains of French Alps, but didn't particularly heat or pushes. Could it be a provoking factor of elongation ? Thanks for the Channel. I Love it.
Ответить"Unlike other manufacturers..." Learned that the hard way on a Malibu.
ОтветитьSoo they gp the lifetime of the car car > Need never be replaced 11 Camry LE 2.5 L
ОтветитьThis guy is such a good teacher, explainer. Wish he was available to be my mechanic.
ОтветитьGreat service
ОтветитьHow many hours does this job normally take? Anyone can answer, thanks!
ОтветитьI have 07 Camry with 80000 miles how do I tell whether I have chain or belt
ОтветитьThe chains may be good but the VVTI gears are shit. They wear out and then you’re in for a painful bill.
ОтветитьLove your video and reassurance about Toyota quality! I have a 2006 RAV4 3.5L V6 with 216,000 miles and still running strong. I bought it new and have been very diligent in changing the oil every 5,000 miles until it reached 100k and now I change oil every 3000 miles. The only major things I've done was replace the water pump and all the ignition coils and
spark plugs.
My question is on a very cold day is it normal to hear the chain rattle for about 2 seconds?
