I love studying the Belgian army of 1914. Just finished a 28mms scale warming army,Guides on horseback wearing red breeches and fur colbacks,carabineers,grenadeirs, and cyclists.

To be real here i think if world leaders want to start a war they should have to serve on the front line of that war.

I've been lucky to be given the uniform of a belgian general ( became general after the war ) that fought as a medic/soldier on the trenches of yser from 1914 to 1918. He received many awards including the fire cross, a very prestigious award given to those who survived for more than 32 months in the mud of the trenches. This soldier had often recalled how he saw on many occasion King Albert the 1st amonside his men in the trenches.

People in the early half onf the 1900's where just made of diffent, tougher stuff.

My grandfather won a medal for opening the sea locks, he came out of retirement when the war broke out as he we was a qualified engineer who had previously served with distinction in the army engineering corps, he was also instrumental in modernising not only the belgian but also russian and japanese powder factories and arsenals (i have letters signed from the tsar the emperor's personal assistants to thank him) i still have a copy of his original treaty on how to handle white powder

The insane fact is that the sliver of Belgium that survived the German Offensive fought till the end of the war then Belgium fought till the bitter end defending British troops at Dunkirk truly unbreakable people who fought for their country

thanks sabaton. This sort of stuff isn't taught in school, even though we're belgian. This makes me proud of my country. one of the only things I'm proud of as a belgian is how we kicked the ass of Germany in the first war. The second war was a lot more embarrassing.

Albert I was what zelensky thinks he is

My great great grandad fought in this battle as part of the Grenadier Guard, who at that time were serving as part of a Scottish regiment; he ended up making it home in one piece and died a year before my dad was born. His brother wasn’t so lucky, he fought in WW2 at the beaches on D-Day and was one of the first to land but tragically died of his injuries 4 days in at the age of 29 and is buried in Normandy, I’m hoping to go over soon and pay my respects since no one has ever visited his grave
