Currently reading the original Chandler novel. By chance I stumbled on this atmospheric 1970's film adaptation. This movie really does a very good job in conveying the zeitgeist, character and mood of the source material. The musical score, costumes and props are the icing on the cake. Hats off to the crew both in front and behind the camera of this excellent cinematic work.
ОтветитьGREAT!!!!!!!!!!!
ОтветитьOne of my favourite movies.
ОтветитьSomeone said Robert Mitchum was the soul of film noir. That's so right.
ОтветитьThis is the perfect Marlow film, and Robert Mitchum was the best choice to play Marlow. Also an inspired choice was John Ireland as Nulty.
ОтветитьThe writing and acting is stellar also the music what a great movie
ОтветитьI didn't even know this stuff was on yt for free, are you kidding?
I got the soundtrack for this on vinyl!
Best Film Noir of all time
Ответить10--10
ОтветитьSome films don’t mention music credits
Like music doesn’t matter
It’s just an incidental
HAH!
Nicely done! A great cast and witty script...
Love the Phillip Marlow character bought back to life in the 80's by Stacy Keach's 'Mike Hammer'
Great music too although I miss Harlem Nocturne
Thank you for posting this overlooked gem!

Wow, the whole movie! And theres Jim Thompson in this movie;)
ОтветитьRobert Mitchum gave one of his greatest performances in "Farewell My Lovely." His Philip Marlowe is up there alongside Humphrey Bogart and Dick Powell. The sleaze and the corruption are all evident, in every scene of this movie.
ОтветитьFantastic clever puns and one liners. Great flick.
Ответить...from the old days, when they knew how to make a good movie.
ОтветитьAn absolute masterful classic noir gem
ОтветитьI've now watched this movie about 100 times along with all those other fantastic movies that came out in the 70s
ОтветитьAt the start I was expecting to hear...."She had the kind of legs you want to suck on for a week....Hmmm Nice Beaver!"
ОтветитьThis film reminded me so much of The Naked Gun series?
ОтветитьMitchum has an amazing and classic performance, but was about 10-15 years too old for the role here.
ОтветитьDid he play in any bad movie?
ОтветитьGreat movie Robert Mitchum
ОтветитьSylvia Miles, ( the drunk floozie) was up for a best supporting actress for her part in this movie .
ОтветитьIt never gets old!
ОтветитьThis movie is more faithful to the novel than other iterations.
ОтветитьHe is much too old. Marlowe is 33 in The Big Sleep, so in Farewell, My Lovely he is maybe 35-36, not more. Mitchum is almost 60 and its visible.
Ответитьjust got this on bluray. beautiful film.
ОтветитьThat my friends... is a fine piece of cinema
ОтветитьExcellent movie. Robert Mitchum played a good Philip Marlowe, great cast on this, thank you.
ОтветитьI've liked Mitchem all my life, John Ireland too. What a treat to find this.
ОтветитьWonderful film 🎥 🎞
ОтветитьTop film, goede cast, goed verhaal met veel humor, uitstekende muziek
ОтветитьWicked film
ОтветитьMarlowe didn’t care about baseball at all. Those scenes are just filler.
ОтветитьPhilip, You should have parceled out something($) for Georgieas well-they don't makem em like him anymore-dead-bang solid.
ОтветитьWas a bit disappointed that they didn't stick with the story as far as Jules Amthor - I could imagine Derek Jacobi or Malcom McDowell in that role.
ОтветитьAt the end Phillip Marlowe gives the $2,000 money paid to him by the high-level crook to bring Moose Malloy to him to the young black boy, who told Marlowe: “I’m a baseball player.” He did this because his dad had been murdered by the bad guys. The only good people in this movie are Marlowe, Nolte, and Malowe’s newspaper stand friend. It is a sad movie but a typical Raymond Chandler film noir adventure.
ОтветитьWell, DiMaggio finally lost his streak and the fat lady starts a singin’ and all it well in Gotham, except for the Moose. Yeah, the big guy wouldn’t listen to reason. I guess, when you’re in love, nuthin’ matters much! Another crime gets solved by Marlow. I guess, Marlow winded up with 2 big ones in his kick. Well, all’s well ends well in the big city. I hope you guys on the internet liked this flick as much as I did. Now, I’m about to call it a night. Take care all you guys! See ya around in the next detective show. Now, I’m gonna put on a little Sinatra, mellow and nice. Have a drink on me! Take care!
ОтветитьSylvester Stallone! car driver 47min in, also Cheech ( I think ) from the Godfather pt.2
ОтветитьDick Richards? You kidding me?
ОтветитьThank you so much for posting this.
ОтветитьHe should have spent the 2K on a new car.
ОтветитьGood movie. But so sad.
ОтветитьA great old movie with Robert Mitchum
ОтветитьMitchum's narration is perfect, just how I always imagined Marlowe talking. I know the movie public wouldn't accept it, but I would like to see this movie with no spoken dialogue and just the entire narration of Chandler's book over the filmed scenes.
ОтветитьThanks for doing that so we can enjoy these films. I do appreciate it! I just subscribe to your channel...
ОтветитьShame missed out the best line when Marlowe reminds Moose hasn't paid for the drinks. 'maybe you got something there, but I wouldn't squeeze it too hard.'
