Black Mesa (100%) Walkthrough (Chapter 16: Gonarch's Lair)

1st fight, its the courting stage.
then follows by the pursuit.
2nd fight, it's the foreplay that went wrong.

Gluon gun makes the first encounter with Gonarch so much easier. Just unleash the full power of this baby, and then you need just a few shots from RPG to make this annoying creature leave.

I got so stuck on this level because I thought I had to unload on Gonarch every time she would show up. So I ended up with no ammo half way through the level and got so frustrated.

I don't think the gonarch is invulnerable in stage 2. I lobbed a lot of ordnance at it at the second place - where you could conveniently evade the green snot - because I though this would be the thing to do there. Thinking like a hammer after the first fight. ;)
And it withdrew for the rest of the section.

I haven't played this yet but I know most people hate xen in the original but I loved it...gonad's lair is a classic boss fight

the gonarch disappeared during phase 2 for me! bullshit!

When playing through this for the second time not gonna lie I felt a sense of unease when Gonarch makes it's debut even Moreso than the first time as I knew it would show up somewhere. I'd beaten Gonarch before but I couldn't remember what would trigger it then I remember the crystals. Certainly is a tough boss; be quick or be dead. The reimaging of Xen is indescribably majestic. You aren't just fighting all the time there are simply moments where you will pause to admire everything.

Sometimes the music doesn't trigger and it makes the final room boring as hell

Honestly I stopped playing with the game and deleted it ~ 15 minutes before the boss fight. Can't remember when was the last time when a game felt so annoying and tedious.
I really like puzzles and such but it was waaaay too much. Shame because the pre-xen chapters were pretty decent.

Funfact if you use noclip in the lake area you can see the gonarch hiding!

I definitely attack her at sight. At any time. This will weak her for the final fight.

Gonarch bugged out for me on the first part and just stood still at the end and never ran away so I was stuck as I couldn't get to the next part.

I was having all kinds of trouble with this battle and I can't believe I even thought about looking anywhere else for advice. BMD, as always, gives the best advice. Thanks BMD! 🤓👍

If you ever kill her in section 2 before she breaks the floor you have to restart couse you'll be stuck, that happened to me

Rewatching this i just wanna say Gornarch was launching BFG projectiles at Gordon xD

I looked for this, because I killed the Gonarch, and wasn't able to progress. Turns out I killed it too fast, and it didn't break a hole for me

I died more times trying to get to that damn healing island in the first stage than I did to the gonarch. One of the rocks trips me up when I try to boost jump, shitty bit of level design.

Lair was better than Xen but I still dislike these out of worldly levels. Stupid content.

You can't really hide from the Gonarch, - it can see through walls. I glitched behind a bit of the mountain to an area that is not accessible or noticable, but the Gonarch can see through objects, which makes things very difficult.
