The Thing is the greatest horror film ever made

35 years ago, if you told Carpenter that he’d be regularly talking in front of cheering crowds, he probably would have laughed his ass off.

Colbert really set him up for all those questions. It was fun to watch Carpenter not have to defend himself for once.

But we do know why childs isn’t a thing don’t we

It made it to civilization, I've seen them. When you see a "human" do something like watch a live concert thru a little screen on their phone instead of with their eyes, that's one of the dead giveaways

TheThing , one of the best if not the best horror/scifi films of all time. I have watched it countless times, it never gets old. Masterpiece!

This was really a treat to watch. The Thing came out over 40 years ago and Stephen decided to do an episode to discuss such an important movie. He truly asked such insightful questions. One of the best talk show hosts ever.

Just watched it today. For whatever time it was. The movie is the same age as me. I love it so much. John is an absolute treasure. His commentary track to the movie is absolutely worth a listen.

Even if The Thing was the only film that John Carpenter was remembered for, it would be one of the best legacies ever. It is pure suspense and tension filled dark magic, and it'll be loved forever by fans of horror films everywhere. All time favourite 🙂😊🥰
Love how John Carpenter says if The Thing came to Earth, we'd basically be screwed. I agree, just today there'd be a lot of camera phone selfies and videos of it just before it absorbed and emulated people 🤭😅 Pathetic behaviour...

I do not exaggreate when I say I lost count how many times I watched The Thing when it came out on VHS!! I was too young to see it in the theatre. My brother and I would recite the lines and act it out for our parents using our own homemade special effects.
Best horror movie ever.

I watch The Thing at least once a year, almost like a Christmas movie. Absolutely one of my favorite films. Personally, I think neither Childs or MacReady were the Thing at the end. They killed it but were both so paranoid they sat there and froze to death. What do you think?

Actually, yes we would, when you actually think about the genetic makeup of the thing. If you actually design an antivirus you could actually study molecular bonds of the parasitic organism that will attack the parasite therefore making it unable to assimilate cells

Legend. Think he feels slightly shafted by Hollywood but he'll be remembered forever by the fans.

Definitely top five best films for me. I'm watching it right now as I type this. John Carpenter is the definition of a great director, and the crew he surrounds himself with is equally great.

Body Bags by Carpenter is a great horror anthology.
The truth is that Mr. Carpenter hardly has a weak film. Each one of his films is, if not a masterpiece, at least a very, very, very, very good film and above all it is Art! Which can hardly be said for many other films.
So long live Mr. Carpenter!
I definitely want to see more Art from him and now I'm off to watch "Body Bags".

Not my favourite Carpenter film, but it's astonishing how the greatest display of practical and makeup effects ever put on film didn't receive an Oscar.

The Thing is an all time great science fiction film. (Based on the story “Who Goes There?”). In also combines mystery and horror with great practical effects.

Total vindication for Carpenter. He can laugh about it now, but at the time when the Thing bombed, he was seriously worried that his career might be over.

McCready is the Thing. How do I know? Because Childs' character has an ear ring in his ear that you can see at the end. And if you remember, the creature can only copy ORGANIC substances and nothing else. Hence, Russell is The THING!!! If this is true, then Childs ends up infected as McCready drinks from the bottle too, so in a weird way, they are BOTH the creature too. You can all thank me later that you got the answer from me LOL

Childs was the thing at the end theres a POV shot of the thing moving from the generator room towards childs scout position near the coat hangars before he ran out into the snow and disapeared to reappear at the end
