I think u always lose ur weapon, because u are playing on hard mode

Also mikey can hover so if you see crystals you cant reach with the other turtles mikey can probably reach it you need to use all the turtles abilitys to get the crystals also if you were playing on a actual gba you can press the l and r button for a powerful attack...but at the cost of health

I wonder how crystals will be used on the ds version of mutant nightmare
