Wolfie Reviews: IDW Sonic #56 | Overpowered, Part 5 - Werewoof Reactions

That was an epic conclusion to this story arc. It had me on edge since the 50th issue was released.

Surge and Kit are such tragic characters! I can't imagine the pain Surge must be in purely out of the fact that Sonic is alive. Her hatred for him pretty much comes down to being a burden to carry and might never be free of. I am very much hoping that the next issue shows Sonic reflecting on this encounter and realizes that there is no way to save them.

Can they put surge and kit in sonic speed battle/ Sonic dash or better yet the games already?

My interpretation is that Kit saw Tails trying to talk him down as manipulation, and thats why he took Surge and left. I like this fight, but I was disappointed Metal was out of commission for most of it. I find his fights tend to be the most interesting in the series, so this turning into another Sonic vs Surge fight was a smidge underwhelming, even if I do like what it led to.

Man, first of all awesome reaction video! Now I want to answer you question as to what I think Kit was thinking:
If you pay a little bit of attention to Tails trying to talk Kit down this time around you can see that Kit stayed quiet through the whole thing and went along with whatever Tails was telling him. In particular just when he was about to get the jump on him you can see through his body language that Kit appears to be restraining himself from hurting Tails, which makes me think that he doesn't really want to hear any of what Tails is saying.

Finally after Surge overloads and appears to have basically stopped Sonic's heart, shortly after, Sonic takes a giant breath and it all goes until Kit intervenes... I don't think Kit decided what he was going to do at any point during this fight. I think this was part of the plan all along. After all Kit and Surge had a plan and it involved them luring Sonic and co to that part of the lab. I think the plan was that if all things failed then Kit would get into position and bury everyone after recovering Surge.

I think that Kit was already on the mindselt that only Surge needed him and that everybody else just wanted to use them since issue 54 and he and Surge had planned all this out by issue 55. So what we saw here was that Kit deliberately went along with what tails was telling him just so that he could have no distractions while he got into position to collapse the entire lab over Sonic and co. Tails' talk no jutsu failed and just like Surge, Kit also learned from the last time he confronted Tails to shut up and make him think he has it all worked out.

It all went according to plan...

Hey Wolfie do a review for Scarpnik Island #2 and #3.

I did like this although I’m not sure what the future holds for these two. Wonder how Sonic will change if at all after this fight.

This issue was the weakest of the arc because something was missing and Metal Sonic was just… there

I like how you brought up the Silver and Knuckles comparisons, I've been thinking the same thing for the longest time.

Sonic meeting Shadow for the first time goes the same way. It's funny knowing Shadow's backstory now in hindsight, because before the final story....Sonic knew nothing about Shadow beforehand. Going through the hero's story, from Sonic's perspective, Sonic hasn't learned anything about Shadow and why he's the way he is. All he knew was Shadow is a black hedgehog that ruined his reputation and is on Eggman's side. Sonic was framed and sent to jail because of Shadow, he helped Eggman blow up a entire remote island, helped him blow up half the moon, etc.

Even during their final battle on the ark...Sonic still doesn't know anything about Shadow's backstory, Maria, Gerald, why he's doing this. Canonically, Sonic must've won that fight, because there's no way Shadow would've kept him alive if he won. Shadow out right told Sonic before the fight he can't let him live. Despite everything Sonic had to deal with G.U.N, framed for crimes he didn't commit, etc, Sonic still spares Shadow's life. Why? Maybe Sonic could tell there's probably more to Shadow than being a faker, but again, he still has next to no context, just like his first encounter with Surge.

Surge is must be the most scariest female villains/antagonist in the Sonic series I notice the series lack of female villains/ antagonists I know they must have lot of them in the Archie comic's besides Rosy and Fiona I really don't have time look through all of them to see how many of them , am more focus on the game side and IDW in the game's we have Zeena and dark queen for IDW we have Surge and She is the most threaten we have so far , am glad Sonic finallys understand the pain they go through but is little too late , looks like Surge and Kit won't change that easily , everything set and stone for them , they want everyone gone from thier lives and Surge is blood thirsty right now.

Haha... Eggman holding both Metal Sonic and Sonic. Remember Metal is probably pretty heavy. 😂 Eggman has definitely been working out.

I have a feeling that Surge and Kit are alive and don’t get crushed just like Starline did

but after Sonic gets angry, turns into his dark form & battle Surge and Kit if they hostile.

I think it's a mixture of both conclusions on he hear the word deal and he just got fed up on feeling like he and Surge is being used also feeling that Sonic is a lying on being compassionate not taking time to see the bigger picture.

However I hope we see them again in a later arc if Surge shut down doesn't reset her with amnesia of something would be even more tragic.

I really loved Surge and Kit! I just hope we solve the mystery of their origins someday! 🥰⚡🌊

This was a great review! As for Kit's last line in this issue I think he just wasn't sure whether or not Tails was being truthful given the misinterpretation he made when he and Surge reunited so he decided to hang back and see what was going to happen, but he hears about the deal Sonic and Eggman made it confirmed his fears and decides that he would quit being indecisive and made a decision for both his and Surge's sake.

In #55 when tail is run away from Eggman there something written on the door way that tails go's in

You know, I never considered that Kit might've misinterpreted the line of "the deal". That's interesting. I don't think it was highlighted that way, I thought that he was just done with the fighting and the philosophy and just wanted to be alone with Surge.
I predicted that you'd give this comic an 8.9 but I don't think you rated it. Maybe I missed it?

I think with Kit I think its just how they were taught Starline is smart but he isn't smart at knowing the cast even his idol Eggman so he lacked that nuance of knowing any of the cast and cause of that gave Surge and Kit a shallow character study of both compared to a more nuanced stance. Plus it doesn't help when Kit sees out of context stuff and dips when its confrontational and doesn't want to get hurt and doesn't wanna see Surge hurt either.

Sonic's gonna take the fight to Eggman in the next arc; so, I can't complain.

I also agree with you this is not the last time we will see Surge and Kit.
Also umm hope this is not being too much but can you preview issue 2 and 3 of Scrapnik Island.
They are out.

My only nitpick is when Surge was about turn Sonic into a past tense, what Tails was doing. I understand that there's not much he could do at that point, but we were shown that he was right above them, was he a lot further up and still coming or was he just hovering there watching it all play out? Surely Tails wouldn't allow his bro to be axed in front of hi- ohhhh not agaaaaain

I liked this issue it's a shame kit and surge ended up where they started but I don't really see how that could go any other way other than kill surge off witch I didn't see them doing but besides that I liked sonics character change with him figuring out what happened to them and him changing how he wanted to approach the situation

A solid conclusion towards the overpowered arc imposters vs originals was a good fight and I enjoyed it overall.

Who knows what Kit meant at the end it’s up for interpretation.

I think Kit decided to say “Fuck it” partly because Eggman was going to take Surge, but also Sonic. They were basically about to fight over Surge and in Kit’s mind, both sides wanted them to change to suit their world view to further boast about how they are in the right.

It's not the most brutal injury this issue, but I still got really scared when Tails hit his head.

I hope Kit and come back but I hope they have a different plan than just kill sonic. Maybe without constant brainwashing they'll start to remember their true memories.

in most of Sonic's enemy turned ally cases it was Amy who changed their decisions

so i really want if surge and kit do switch into Sonic's side that Amy will be the one to talk them into that state

To answer why Kit decided to leave with Surge... I'm not sure.

Tails has been nothing but kind to him. Sonic kept telling Surge she should do what she wants, she doesn't have to obsess over killing Sonic.

Kit's speech in the end didn't really make sense either.

Eggman didn't really want Surge and Kit. He was mostly after thy Dynamo Cage she stole. And Sonic and Tails went after the duo because Surge stole the Wisps.

But it could be like you said, Woofie: Kit was just tired of all the fighting, Surge's obsession with Sonic, and wanted to just leave it all behind.

Edit: what I thought of Surge... she was getting repetitive with the blame game. I'll be okay if we don't get Surge for a while.

Kit, on the other hand, still peaks my interest.

I really wanted metal to get his runback on surge and kit, oh well😞

I think Kit was always planing to stab them in the back. During the whole fight Kit was probably going in problem solving survivor mode. Where the reason he went to the top was so he could analyze the situation and figure out what the best corse of action was. He played Tails and found the perfect moment to Strike when all their guards were down. In some cases Kit's more dangerous than Surge because of how cold and Calculating he can be. If he were to break away from Surge he could probably do far more than either her or Starline. He'd probably be able to pull off some Heisenberg level scheming.

As far as Kit's line of thinking, I believe what it comes down to is, from his perspective, nobody he's met can be trusted. He thought he could be of use to Sonic because without Surge, he had nobody else to really lean on, and by default he decided to act as Sonic's support, despite the guy not asking him for any of that.

It's all he knows, but once he realized Surge was alive, he presumed Sonic was messing with him to get him to be on his side. He completely misinterpreted things. As the reader, we know better, but for Kit who's never known these characters before, it's difficult to say which is legitimate and which are seeking to use him and Surge, and Eggman's double-crossing didn't help matters either, it only served to validate what he'd been internalizing for a while now:

The only person he can trust, who he can support and in turn gain validation from is Surge.
He's the only one she's been vulnerable around, who she can depend on, and she's been shown to be a lot more amicable with him as opposed to how harsh she was in Imposter Syndrome. There's a proper bond forming, even if the bases for their relationship was founded on brainwashing

When it comes to Kit's hate for Sonic, I think he believes that Sonic only sees as a means to prove his ideals are right, he thinks Sonic doesn't care about their wellbeing and obly has them around to boost his own ego, kinda like starline did.
Atleast that's how I saw it 🤷‍♂️

idk why people keep saying it's an even fight, Sonic is fighting with an injured leg & Surge is fighting with all her power + Dynamo Cage amps + Killing intent

Am I the only one who thinks Surge would be a VERY good vessel for THE END? Like a SCARILY good vessel for THE END. Especially since her wants for the world and desire to kill Sonic would align PERFECTLY with THE END's own goals and method of destroying worlds.

I would argue that sonic has been holding back during his fight against surge. I mean sonic doesn't plan on killing her or anything. And if he did, It would've been over the moment sees her. Sonic has faced star level threats before.

I have the strange feeling that we're all being baited and Kit is the one who's really gonna rise as the bigger threat. He seems to be adapting and learning faster than Surge; Unlike her he's not suffering from Starline hallucinations, perhaps having a tighter control even with his programmed desire to help Surge; So most of his opinions seem to be forming out of his own thoughts on what he's seeing (hell he was eagerly...maybe too much, to help Sonic when he was rescued from Eggman's city).

I keep having this feeling he's the dangerous underdog that will aid Surge to be more and more destructive each time for her benefit.

As foils, I like the thing that separates them is Freedom. Sonic is free to do anything he wishes with no one to stop him or hold him back and he uses it to help people because that’s what he wants. Surge has zero freedom and because of that she hurts people, because she has too.

You can tell from Sonic's face in the last panel that he was getting very annoyed that Eggman can't keep a truce for five minutes and breaks it at the chance he gets. Sonic was really getting tired of Eggman's back stabbing, it was getting old.
