In 1687, a massive explosion rocked the Parthenon, destroying half of it, and blowing up its wooden roof that had lasted for 1400 years. Most of its state of ruin today is due to this event, as well as other destruction that followed.
This video tells the remarkable story of how the Parthenon survived mostly intact for so many centuries, against all odds, all the way to the tragic event of 1687, and what were the circumstances that led to this explosion.
