Hugely powerful and moving performance!
Fabulous work!! Never had heard of Currentzis (my bad) but became a fan, now. Hats off to the SWR too. Fantastic sound. Before watching (hearing) this film I had patiently seen (heard, one hour and a half) the one of the rehearsing of the 1st movement (LAB) of this piece. I can understand why another viewer (notarbolz926) calls Currentzis style interventionist. Stopping the orchestra every 30 seconds or so to change or modulate some thing must be wearisome to the musicians but the fact is that in a group of more then a hundred musicians, each one of them must have and idea how things should sound and that has to be, well, unified , if not...and Currentzis is very demanding.
Every musician in this orchestra is "top gun" but the woodwinds... what a show! The piccolo, the bassoon, the flute...
If you don't have the time, the patience or the taste for this kind of music at least hear the 2nd and 3rd movements. Just 12 minutes you will never forget.
Good grief! What have I just listened to? Shostakovich as he should be played. That's what I just listened to. What a unique performance. I have only seen Teodor Currentzis superbly directing Mozart's piano concerto #20 on period instruments in Vienna. What a contrast this is! Thank you for portraying so well Shostakovich's lament about World War II not being the victory over fascism that the rest of the world thought it was going to be. (For Stalin was way worse than Hitler). Fantastic performance and a great video which, for once, did not sycophantly concentrate on the conductor at the expense of the rest of the instrumental playing. Again, thank you for bringing such majestic music to the public in such an authentic manner.
Lying here and about to go to sleep and I saw a beautiful blonde.,. and some other details...
Bravo! Bravissimo!! Wonderful performance and recording! I really enjoyed this repeatedly.💕

What a beautiful, moving rendition of Shotsto's most intimate and personal pieces. Bravo!
Somptueux...
Dear SWR, this conductor is associated with war criminals, ICC issued warrants against these people. Please make your protege respond to Geraman composer Herr Eggert about his involvement in propaganda of war. Ukraine pays huge price for European freedom, probably in return you provide war criminal’s puppets an opportunity to play soviet music in Europe, you probably didn’t enjoy enough DDRs reality and probably think that such position doesn’t stink a lot but it does. Shostakovich would have named this ‘Stalingrad’ symphony ‘Bucha/Bakhmut/Kharkiv/Mariupil’, if he knew of atrocity that his country is currently committing. Herr Moritz Eggert is waiting for reply for his open letter and we do as well ‘Offener Brief an Teodor Currentzis’
Currentzis looks like an overgrown stroppy teenager.
Great performance, muscular, intense, mysterious and otherwordly... Maestro and SWR Orchester in perfect match and understanding. Thank you very much for uploading!
One of the best conductor nowadays.Awesome orchestra.English horn at the top.😀
Great performance and recording!!!
Bad, boring, and the conductor does not know the score very well.
The prsonal moods of Chostakovitch interfered with his reactions to the kind of life he had to suffer in a complex and quite attractive way. This 8th symphony was written between the "Leningrad" 7th and the 9th, rather light and joyful when officials were waiting for a massive song of triumph celebrating the victory. This 8th symphony anticipates the mood of the 10Th and the desolated or sarcastic mood of hid last works. The rendering is splendid.
Ответитьflute section 😎 only gold
All wind instruments in the pasacaglia are glorious. Clarinetist the most, he handles the tempo freedoms in a wonderful way.
Also the piccolo flute.
Excellent performance, but the quiet passages are sometimes almost inaudible. This is particularly true of the flutter tongue passage or flutes in the 4th movement
Snare drum in the 3rd movement is way too civil. Listen to what Mravinsky lets the guy do in his famous 1982 recording.
I do not know this conductor..so i have to listen. And then write amy meaning..
Really enjoyable. Thankyou.
