ОтветитьVery interesting video. 5/5 🙏
ОтветитьFascinating. Thank you.
Ответить👹
ОтветитьI love tribal art it's beautiful especially tribal masks from really any culture (edit: the Aztec skull masks might be my favorite)
ОтветитьWhen you showed the villagers from papua new guinne speaking with that beautiful chant i really thought it was part of some spiritual ceremony , or party and it zooms out and its just two people having a regular conversation 😂 that is such an amazing language, culture is so cool.

ОтветитьId absolutely love a part 2! You are very passionate about covering ur subjects and its very nice to watch your videos. Since this video covered a lot of East-Asian and African masks, maybe the part 2 could show some interesting masks from Scandinavia, Europe, Siberia, and of course also northern Native American masks and totems! Hawaii has also a rich history in masks and similar items, as do Aboriginal tribes in Australia. Some pre medieval era European masks are quite interesting, as of course also the more utilitarian masks that came later during the plague, as well as religious masks (like the Spanish capirote catholic traditions)
ОтветитьThe Spanish soldiers conquered because they brought smallpox, which killed over 90% of the natives.
ОтветитьIf you ever make a part 2, i suggest including the masks that are used during the traditional carnival of cities like Mamoiada or Ottana in Sardinia, Italy.
They are grotesque wooden masks that have different names and characteristics based on the type of character they represent, for example, during the carnival of Ottana, there's a group of people with masks similar to cattles named "boes" that fight against the people wearing masks similar to human faces named "merdules". This fight means to represent the costant conflict between man and nature.
I really hope you enclude this in your next video.
(excuse me for any mistakes i made writing this, i do not speak english as my first language)
I really enjoyed this essay so i'd love to watch a part two!
ОтветитьFeeling called to bring mask making into my practice… THIS VIDEO IS EXACTLY WHAT IVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR
ОтветитьAhhh. Now we see where lazy Masquerade gets his shit from… cool
ОтветитьThe Segway in to your sponsor was pretty smooth tbh
ОтветитьPart 2!
ОтветитьWhen you mask, it's not lights off, it's lights on. You become infinitely conscious, all physical limits on understanding are removed, resulting in Absolute Omniscience.
ОтветитьExcellent work! I know your topic is the masks, but the masks are embedded within a cultural context. I don't think you should be afraid to explore more of that cultural context even if it means narrowing your focus to fewer examples in each video. Just an observation, but you are doing great work. Thank you!
ОтветитьLeave those tribes alone. Yup!
ОтветитьFascinating Thank You Blind Dweller ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
ОтветитьThis is absolutely incredible content, dude! I too have always been drawn to masks and their meanings. As a hobby I like to research the artwork, stories and any music of ancient people, so this is truly fascinating to me! Thanks very much for sharing this with us. I hope everyone is doing well and having a great day.
ОтветитьI love the content of your videos so much, but the "oh it's so spooky and every word must drip with spooky intonation" reading style is exhausting to listen to. There's no way you talk like that in normal conversation, your voice is very pleasent in general and there's just no reason for the weird sensationalizing intonation. I mute your videos and just watch with closed captions. It would be great if you could consider not using that vocal tone for every video.
Aside from that, keep up the great work.
I’ve recently seen a couple of shows talking about death masks. They are fascinating. They used to do those on people like presidents, artists and pretty much anyone that the family wanted to do.
ОтветитьDio Brando: interesting.
ОтветитьInspired to make some.
ОтветитьFor any fans of the Yakuza games, a hannya is the main figure of Majima's back tattoo.
ОтветитьI found this incredibly interesting and masks have always been something I've been interested in. I'd definitely love a second video about them
ОтветитьIf you’re going to make a part to please look into Vejigantes masks from my native Puerto Rico and the masks of many north American indigenous nations like the Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw and the Nunivak cup’ig. Amazing video btw, really loved it a lot.
Ответить!!WARNING!!
scambot with @BlindDweller 's name lurking in the comments
A part 2 would be nice. Do you have interest in plaque masks and death masks?
ОтветитьWhen I was little, I went to my dad’s friend’s house for a sleepover with my family. He had so many masks and statues all over his house, and it scared me badly. Over time, my fear grew into curiosity. Now, almost 18 years later, I’m minoring in anthropology. How funny is that?
ОтветитьIsn't it interesting that masks are almost always tied to the Spirit World? They invoke the presence of The Other. Masks seem to commonly cross-culturally operate as a tool or device to create a gateway or portal which allows for the incursion of the Other, typically an envoy from the spiritual realm. Just saying. 👹
ОтветитьMore please
ОтветитьI´d love another mask video
ОтветитьI would love to see a part two video! Nice work! ❤
ОтветитьHey that's me! Cheers for the feature!
ОтветитьI forgot about your vids and now I’ve got a few to catch up on so hyped I love your content it inspires me to work on my art so damn much
ОтветитьHey man thanks for covering these fantastic artists over the years i hope all is well on your side
ОтветитьI've always wanted a personal mask
ОтветитьGive me part 2
ОтветитьHey your video is really interesting about masks. It really shows how deep other cultures are.
Just now in Germany we have "Fasching/Fasnet" and there are many different types or kind of mask.
Would recommend to put it one your Part 2 :)
When I was a kid I had a book about masks from around the world and it had cardboard replicas of each one you could punch out and try for your self and explanations of what country or culture each was from what they were used for etc, and I had the exact reaction you did as a 5 or 6 year old, they were creepy as hell, but sooooo fascinating! Love that you made this video and I am now going online to see if I can’t find that book for my little boys so they can experience the same wonder!
ОтветитьBut now that mention about masks, their are some masks I've heard from over Ireland that some say their are some ritualistic masks for the transmigration period that allows one to take the spirit from one person and transfer him/her to the other.
Only a suggestion I mean, and I apologize for the previous comment from before, when first say the list about different artists and their work, I was sucked into it like a cosmic vortex of both beautiful and wicked.
And again I apologize and I hope you have a nice day.
This is very interesting Mr.dweller, especially about the noh masks that each one wields a different facial features and different mood themes, but the best Kind of mask is the hanya mask.
Very wicked
lol
ОтветитьI just discovered this channel and have been binge watching. I love learning more about the artists and discovering new creatives. I would love to see a video about the art of Elif Varol Ergen. Amazing channel!
ОтветитьI personally like masks cause I feel like expressions aren’t a natural part of my personality- just a language I choose to add into it so people understand better. It feels a lot more genuine for me to have a static expression, given inflection alone can carry the same level of detail. One day I’ll craft my pinnacle mask to represent myself.
ОтветитьAll kinds of art forms indeed. Great video!
