What's interesting is that you said Scandinavian countries want you to move to the middle class whereas in the US, such a goal is blasphemy. You are instantly slammed as a lazy bastard whose been given unearned privileges if you expect enough assistance to move into the middle class. This is why our programs are often only designed to do less than the bare minimum which keeps you constantly needing to go back for assistance. It gets to a point where some people choose to stay "poor" so that they can live better under welfare.

It's like no matter what, our programs are either not pragmatic and make freeloading too easy OR they fall short of accomplishing real progress that people get stuck in a constant loop of needing aid.
