This is just outright stupid, there was no reason to kill the kids, if random animals survived the asteroid there was a chance that humans could too also the reaper is antithetical to their survival as well as having them start in different start in separate groups, as no single group had enough people to carry on humanity. The estimates for how many people needed to prevent inbreeding do vary some around 100,00, however the lowest amount which gives the most leeway is 100 people which no group is anywhere close to.

I like this series so far but its so ridiculous it's not even funny, how does an asteroid impact mutate everything into monsters not to mention somehow bring back extinct animals too...this wouldn't happen even if millions of years past which it obviously hasn't been nearly that long since the ruins of Tokyo were still in recognizable shape, tbh judging by that alone I feel like some people would have survived even without being frozen in a bunker.
