The birds seem to be bored. Maybe some music by Kenny Wheeler (off camera of course) may help. Not against you, for birds watching you it is like watching cows grazing. For myself the video is interesting.

The look on your face when you were trying to figure out whether to put it back together or fix it was great, i didn't know why you even contemplated it because i knew you would do it right

Absolutely love each video. This one had me on edge nervous; nail biting.. "when will the all the ball bearings fall out! When will the tension blow pieces all over the room! Oh i can't watch! 🫣.". Absolute Great Work!.

If wheel was connected to it, its unlikely to be screwed on. Maybe just pressed in? Drawings doesnt show any threading there, but its bit hard to make some sense out of it.

I’m in the middle of trying to bring a 1966 Okuma LS lathe back to life after it’s been sitting in a barn for the last 20 years. Documentation is poor. You’ve given me courage to keep pressing on!

Make a heavy wall sleeve to fit closely over the larger shaft diameter just past the plug at the end of the shaft. Make the sleeve long enough to stop off on the shoulder transition to the next larger diameter. Make the sleeve long enough to extend an inch or more past the end of the shaft. Make a heavy washer with 8.5 mm thru hole. Install the sleeve over the shaft, cap the sleeve with the washer and an 8mm bolt. Tighten the bolt to attempt extraction of the plug. It might pull the plug out if the plug is not threaded.

That washer that was holding up disassembly is pretty beat up with some nasty burrs around the hole. Was it hung up on the circlip groove? How much material was taken from the shoulder to release it?

Ответить
Jeffrey Lee
Jeffrey Lee - 12.11.2023 05:13

An 8 mm bolt with a dog point end threaded all the way in to the bottom of the hole might buck that shoulder plug out if it’s a thru hole in the plug and the bolt end butts up against the bottom of a blind hole in the shaft. Take a close look at the bottom of the 8 mm bolt hole with a bore scope. Determine if it’s a thru hole in a plug or a true blind hole. If it’s a blind hole it could be a blind hole in the plug or a blind hole in the shaft with a thru hole in the plug. If it’s the latter the bolt might be used to extract the plug.

In a previous life, the circlip failed releasing the hand wheel . The wheel and other parts crashed to the floor and the sleeve broke off from the wheel. Curtis knows he needs to face the plug back and possibly drill or bore it to remove it. Many ways they could have installed the plug. Previous owner never figured on taking it apart again.

Just fast forwarding past the dog content at 15 minutes and 10 seconds (which is like a tv commercial) and getting back to the content I came here for. It's pretty inconvenient to have to stop eating and attempt to fast forward with a hand covered in food grease, sometimes I just watch other channels where I won't to FFW past animal content. I think it would be nice if the dog and bird content was at the end of the video with the outtakes.

Can you just make a closed sleeve to bolt onto the end to hold everything on?

Please explain where the primary thrust on the screw is reacted into the machine base/housing. I’m assuming it’s not at the shoulder. I’m thinking it’s just the compression spring thrust at the shoulder. Not clear in the video.
