What about the 28mm f1.8?
ОтветитьWhy a 14 f1.8 instead of the sigma 14 f1.4
ОтветитьNice bit of kit but a bit steep. If you're just making art for arts-sake and uploading to the web/iPad just frame with the idea you're going crop out the edges where you'll see the coma/astigmatism. My sensor is 16MP but a 4K is 8MP and 1080P 2MP...
ОтветитьGreat vid and shots. Did you use a tracker on all shots? It wasn’t until the last lens (50mm) that you mention the star tracker and then say several times you always carry the tracker.
Ответитьcould barely understand you on the sand dune when you went into vocal fry mode
ОтветитьI'm looking at the Sigma 14/1.8 for my D810!
I have some really cool trips coming up soon I want to take advantage of this lens
Perfectly beautiful
ОтветитьThe new Sigma 14mm f1.4 and Sigma 24mm f1.4…?
ОтветитьWhat about f4 lenses? viable at all?
ОтветитьCan Sony e 16 mm f2.8 be used for astro and star trails?
ОтветитьHave you ever considered the 135mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 for Panoramics and nebula
ОтветитьThere is no RF 15-30 F2 lens. It is 15-35 f2.8 and 28-70 f2.
Ответить3 photos to present 3 lenses...boring
ОтветитьThe Sony 14mm GM, Sony 24mm GM, and the new Sony 50mm 1.4 GM is my trifecta!
ОтветитьI have all three very similar lenses, but if I had to choose one, I ironically would get to 24, but if I could choose to, I will get the 14 and 50 lol.
I do think the 14 is a bit too wide if you want to get really good detail, however
What camera/lens did you use to shoot this video?
ОтветитьDude sounds like he's dying of thirst out there
ОтветитьMe looking into buying one lens for Astro, then thinking, nah I can get away with using my kit lens, then see this video " the ONLY 3 lenses you NEED for astrophotography" lol
ОтветитьGet the new 50 gm 1.4
ОтветитьMaybe one could skip the 14 and 24 and just buy the 20? Unlike the 14 it takes filters and is a fraction the price of both. Instead of the 50 APO I purchased the 35 Voighlander APO on Allen’s advise. I might buy or rent the 65mm apo for Astro panorama
ОтветитьHi. I would like to ask you for help.
My 14 year old boy wants his first camera and he decided to go with the nikon system.
He wants a nikon d5200 or d7200 at begging. He dreams about landscape and astrophotography.
I would like to kindly ask for help.
Which lens you would personally choose between:
Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8
Or Samyang 14mm f2.8
Many many thanks and great video.
We live in Bristol so maybe someday my son would meet you and you would help him a bit with his a new adventure with photography.
Thank God there are Laowa and Samyang manual primes with similar focal length and apertures as your AF Sony lenses ;-)
Ответитьyou can use any lens. Buying all those can run you quite a bit of money.
Ответитьthere is no rf 15-35 f2
ОтветитьGrad you mention the Samyang/Rokinon 14mm 2.8 for astro as a good budget option, since i just buy one used for the nikon z system very cheap. Great work amazing images!
ОтветитьGreat video and thanks for the recommendations. I’m definitely interested in the 14mm GM but don’t have the money for it at the moment unfortunately. I noticed that one other person recommended the Sony Zeiss 55mm 1.8, I have that lens and it’s small and light weight. Have you considered this lens at all instead of your 50mm?
ОтветитьMy gf gave me the 14mm GM a few weeks ago, it's a beast. Now I use 14mm, 24mm, 35mm, 85mm, 135mm and 150-500mm. I only used the last one for a moon shot though.
ОтветитьMe using my $200 24mm F/2.8 because I just bought a Sony A7 IV and can't afford any pricy lenses :P
ОтветитьHey Alyn, just pre-ordered your book! (paperback, was too late for hardback haha). Your channel, along with Night Lights Films has been a huge inspiration for me. I shoot with a 6D modded and an A7S 1st gen for timelapse stuff. I don't recall if you have a video reviewing the Sony A7 IV for astrophotography. I'd love that content and am particularly interested in how it performs in bulb mode for tracked images. It seems to do great just based off of the work you have done with it but a new camera is a big purchase decision and I'd like to have the best review I can get! Just a though, i know you're probably quite busy!
ОтветитьHave you tried the Zeiss 55 1.8? Super sharp and tiny.
ОтветитьWait isnt low f stop for bokeh? Shouldnt you use small aperture high f stop for landdcape
ОтветитьDoes anyone using LAOWA 12mm F2.8? Does it suitable?
ОтветитьBut if you shoot at 1.4 or 1.8 you're going to have soft corners, CA, coma etc. Always worth stepping down one or two steps to shoot closer to the lens's sweet spot. Also, invest in a star tracking mount so that fast aperture becomes irrelevant
ОтветитьI'm selling all my gh5 stuff to get at least one of those
ОтветитьAmused that I worked out where you were shooting before you mentioned the location. Good time to visit Stovepipe Wells. Too bad it looks like you didn't get to witness the valley just after a rain. See the Tufa at Mono Lake?
Thanks for the learning and review videos. Recently found out that the prices finally dropped enough on the a7s ii's and will be picking one up for photography / video. The lens and iso videos have been quite helpful in working out what to expect.
I know this is probably a weird question but are cinema lenses usable for astrophotography, i mean most of the are in the F/1.2 to F/1.8 normally and since they dont have auto focus they are normally much cheaper. curious your thoughts about this
ОтветитьYou could go with the standard Sony 50mm 1.8 instead of the 1.4 version. Might be a but lighter for you.
I decided on the 20mm 1.8, the 35mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8 zeiss batis
Cracking vid boyo, maybe you need some snow shoes for the sand dunes ;)
ОтветитьGreat vid Alyn and thanks for sharing your thoughts on lens choice, all of which makes sense of course. You may have posted the answer to my question somewhere but what star tracker are you using and why? Thanks in advance!
ОтветитьAwesome Alyn! I'm heading to Joshua Tree Monday night. Unfortunately there will be a large Moon but I couldn't pass up the opportunity while in the area. Bringing a 24mm and a 50. Perfect timing for the video. ;)
ОтветитьThis is why I love 24 mm
ОтветитьNo telephoto?
ОтветитьI'm personally using the Sony 20mm f/1.8 - nice for a compromise between the 14mm and the 24mm while saving on quite a bit of weight and a LOT of money compared to having both of them. Haven't been shooting much with 50mm lenses, but I recently got the Rokinon/Samyang 135mm f/1.8, and that one's been fantastic for wide-field deep-sky astro. I think it would be interesting to use it for a super high-res landscape pano, but my tripod head is kinda crap for panoramas that are that exact.
ОтветитьI bought my sigma 18-35 f 1.8 some time ago, can't wait to take some shots this summer!
ОтветитьThanks for this video. I've not had great luck with my Astro panorama shots. This was a great help!
ОтветитьMeh. All you need is your kit lens. That's it, nothing more. Providing you know what the fuck you're doing. Who is he selling products for? Don't believe me? Go check my flickr. I make a point to troll with my efs18-55, rf 24-105 stm, and ef75-300 all kit lenses. no one needs to spend money on extra lenses for either astro, landscape or both combined. There's never any need for a supposed fast lens. It's all marketing & bullshit. Alyn has some decent shots but most YT-ers can't shoot a selfie so don't buy into the bs, learn to use the kit lens you'll be happy I suggested you did. Equipment doesn't make anyone a better photographer any more than buying a flickr "pro" account makes someone a professional... And I don't care how good your phone's camera is it will NEVER replace an actual camera, even a 18MP powershot or fuji vacation style camera is 100x more powerful than any iphone/android. That being said ppl please stop flooding socials with pics of your lunch, Nobody fucking cares what you're stuffing your face with. And don't forget to brush yo teeth!
ОтветитьInteresting - even for a Nikon shooter. Can’t wait to see the results of your desert trip!
