I wondered where Mahoney went after he was kicked out of the Academy. Glad he did well. Not sure I'd want him working on my brain, though.
ОтветитьDr.Brian talking about the brain, sweet
ОтветитьI have mad respect and complete awe for doctors in general and surgeons in particular.
Neurosurgeons are literally god's angels. Thank you for everything you guys do, the whole science and practice and industry.
Very grateful for modern medical science and surgery. 🙂
Also, excellent communication style, Dr. Brian Kopell. Great balance of informative versus dumbed down.
Like someone else said, this question would only be feasible to someone who has done both careers! Otherwise it’s a type of question asking for a banana and you get an apple instead!
ОтветитьIm an OR nurse, and i wondered if he'd mention the cauterized flesh smell. For anyone who is curious, it smells almost exactly like burning hair. It can be off-putting, but i got used to it fast.
Ответитьif my teacher in elem and high school like him I'll probably a surgeon now... easily to explained.
ОтветитьSo you’re telling me… you’re COOKING me while operating on my brain? WTF 🤯 I have questions!
ОтветитьHis argument for why brain surgery is harder than rocket science is really, really bad. Like, there are more grains of sand on a beach than there are children in any individual family. Does that mean building a sand castle is harder than being a parent?
Brain surgeons don't micromanage every individual neuron in the brain. And rocket scientists don't need to know every star in the universe.
"I used to think the brain was the most fascinating part of the human body. Then I realized..... look what's telling me that". - Emo Phillips
Ответитьno offense but this guy sounds like a british man doing an american accent
ОтветитьThank God people like this exist.
ОтветитьThis guy is a whole book bro😂😂😂❤amazing
ОтветитьJust want to point out that Dr. Kopell is absolutely wrong when he says that “The amount of connections between … [one] hundred billion neurons are greater than all of the stars estimated in universe.” There are way more stars in the universe than neural connections.
Ответитьwhy does he actually looked like mcdreamy
ОтветитьYou are so handsome, I'd let you play with my brain 😊
ОтветитьAs the fields in question require different qualities the difficulty probably relates to the individuals proclivities.
I'm sure this chap may have found aerospace much more challenging than neurosurgery. Inclination towards Biological sciences and maths although not mutually exclusive, probably differs substantially and high level proclivity towards both is unlikely.
As a physio people underestimate how much biology we need to know in all fields to be successful, but it's a better comparison than the aforementioned and i think we can all agree neurosurgery is way harder 😂
I appreciate how he called speedrunners "videogame athletes"
ОтветитьWhat's harder? definitely brain surgery because you aren't allowed to make mistakes and improve you gotta get it right the first time
ОтветитьThis dude makes atleast 780.000$ a year
ОтветитьThumb nail question
Answers: Brain Surgery
Astronomers: :O
I’m not going to watch a second of this but I guarantee it’s going to be this guy trying to act humble but failing to contain his pretentious nature completely
ОтветитьHow often does he do Q&A? Very interesting
ОтветитьThe brain is as scary as the ocean
ОтветитьI always thought I wanted to be a rocket surgeon when I grew up.
🤷♂
How much of the brain can you take away without killing the patient?
ОтветитьRocket Science can mean alot of things. Is it the amature hobbyist playing with cardboard tubes and Testes brand fizzers? Or theoretical physicists?
Theoretical physics is like killing a mythical giant. But when you finaly find that one equation that works then you won.
Medicine is like killing a million ants. After the first 100,000 your arms feel like rubber but you gotta keep going.
Talk about a hot doctor, sheesh!
ОтветитьI hate the smell of burnt smell that cautery gives out
Ответитьlook at the time on his watch go back and forth throughout the video.
ОтветитьBeing theoretical physicist in m-theory or dark matter is harder than any surgeon job imo.
ОтветитьRocket science is harder, you don't get as much feedback with the "real thing" in "real conditions" like with brain surgery.
We have more brain surgeries than space rockets launched.
This is the nicest neurosurgeon I’ve ever seen
ОтветитьEgas Moniz ON top
ОтветитьI hope i never need this mans services. No offense but thinking about all this is terrifying
ОтветитьSorry, but brain surgery is definitely not harder than rocket science. As a medical student, there is a lot of practice, memorization and learning that goes into the craft. In rocket science however, there is a lot of outside the box thinking, conceptualization of abstract concepts and the application of seriously tough maths. The degree of precision in rocket science is also much greater. It takes possibly hundreds of insanely smart people to get a rocket into space. It takes one wonderfully skilled neurosurgeon and his team to perform a surgery.
ОтветитьПять баллов
ОтветитьI hope they never find a “cure” for ADHD.
I am exactly the way evolution and natural selection intended.
It’s only a disorder when framed through modern medicine.
Actually, the number is about 86 billion neurons, not 100 billion.
Ответить"Which is harder?" Which parts of neurosurgery and rocket science are we comparing? Sending a small rocket up in the sky is backyard science, but visiting the moon requires the concerted effort of thousands of people. Likewise, a lobotomy (technically neurosurgery!) could be performed in the office of a GP, whereas some of the operations performed today requires extensive planning and dozens of involved specialists. Failure causes death in both cases, albeit in a somewhat more spectacular fashion in the rocket science department. I'd say it's a moot point.
ОтветитьIf I ever need to get brain surgery, I want this dude to do it.
ОтветитьActually, you don’t have to be rocket scientist, it’s enough to be physicist or mathematician … the amount of theory knowledge to understand basic concepts is quite hard. Harder than just read a book and performing procedures, which you can actually practice and become good at it by the time.
ОтветитьIt's definitely Rocket Surgery.
ОтветитьFellow neurosurgeon here! Great video!!
Ответитьi always get this tingly feeling in my head when people are talking about brain operations...
ОтветитьThere are way more than 100 billion stars in the universe, think you mean galaxy.
Ответитьi wanna see this dude’s bank account
ОтветитьBrian the Brain surgeon. Destiny.
