what would ya'll say is the main difference between using a TTL flash versus a strobe light. I recently bought a nikon sb-18 for my fg and am thinking about buying a strobe light as well but would like to know the difference.
ОтветитьDoes anyone else think those pics of the person with the braids are a little dull and not as bright as they could be?
ОтветитьHow tf is this man focusing in the dark …😅 goated 🐐
ОтветитьBut how did you sync the 35mm camera with the strobe? i dont get that. please someone explain!
ОтветитьI do not resort to this method, your photos show he was flashed and did not mix ambient with flash, your solution is spot metering the scene and incident metering your talent and work your settings to match your incident flash to your spot meter of scene in the horizon, if you do not want to invest in sekonic expensive latest get Minolta spot meter (that also meters flash) it is cumbersome going between digital and analogue , with spot reflective/incident meter you nail it ( ambient/flash)
ОтветитьI use my digital camera to meter a lot, but my Mamiya lens is so much larger than my Sony lens so I assume that more light will be passed through, just due to the sheer size difference
Ответитьmy main concern is white balance when you use film stock, like vision3 250d
ОтветитьQuestion: Dear Willem, I would love to start doing studio portraits using strobes with my Hasselblad 500cm. My question: Does the Neewer Vision 4 300W Outdoor Studio Flash Strobe that you seem to be using for the video works with the Hasselblad 500 cm. Sorry but I have tried with Pocket Wizard x plus but it is not working. I really love your videos. Jasmine
ОтветитьDo you use the same iso as on the film ? Also I have a rangefinder that blocks the shutter button if the light meter doesn’t read any light, I can see an issue for me if my camera needs light to even take a picture. Would it be the case that I wouldn’t be able to use flash at night or dusk like in this video ?
Ответитьquick question: how do you focus in the dark? or did you use autofocus?
ОтветитьFor strobe metering outdoors, all you need to do is match apertures. Easy.
ОтветитьSome bullshit bro😂 you gotta figure out how it works, cause now it seems like video should name - how I use my digital camera to shoot film😅😅😅
ОтветитьI’ll definitely be using my digital camera to help meter with my 35mm! This gave me confidence to just do it
ОтветитьThe same flash adapter can also be used as a wireless trigger from your meter so it can trigger the flash and read the ambient light too
ОтветитьAs someone who primarily shoots black and white, I've always loved your use of color. I've recently started doing portraits to try and make a little money off my hobby and these videos have been more inspiring than ever. Thanks Willem.
also doing portraits finally allowed me to get the santa fe bag and i'm in love (couldnt get it sooner bc student)
Hi Will, Im Tian from Bali. I am very inspired to your channel :)
regarding to this video, I have a questions which I hope you have the answer. I own a 35mm Ricoh A50 film camera, and I have a godox X1T (s) trigger, which I believe this trigger is specified for Sony camera. Do you have any recommendation of trigger that will work with my Ricoh A50? :)
probably should've watched this before shooting looool, thank you for your knowledge bro
ОтветитьI found Montell’s music a couple years ago and it kind of blew me away seeing him in this video. The world is small.
Ответитьnice work
ОтветитьHonestly bro I don’t think it’s controversial at all! It all comes down to knowing how to use your resources especially if you’re on a BUDGET. The way you elaborated this was like a scientist testing their hypothesis and showed proof of work lol. Thank you for confirming and displaying the digital method, I’m gonna give this a go on my Yashica Mat 124G using some Cinestill 400D combined with my Godox V1.
Ответитьfor someone who (for some reason) does not have digital camera:
flash exposure on a location is a matter of a flash portion that balansed by flash power and lens aperture versus incident light portion that is balansed by shutter speed for an aperture you selected.
thus you can perfectly calculate both with a flash meter (not at once of course).
Can you still check your setting without a digital camera when the sun gets lower and lower
ОтветитьI became unsubscribed to this channel somehow 🤔
oh well, I'm back!
Great video, cheers Willem! Quick question, what type of metering are you using on your digital camera?
ОтветитьNeewer vision 5 will work fine as well?
Love
Uhm question. I have no Hotshoe what do I do?
ОтветитьThe flash sync speed on my analog camera is 1/60. Does that mean all the shots taken with a flash or strobe must be that speed? And that i adjust the aparture accordingly?
ОтветитьYour truly inspirational bro
ОтветитьJust use a light meter bro... If you're that worried, use a flash that has a modelling light.
ОтветитьHi! Does anyone know where this location is?
ОтветитьDude I can't even tell you how surprised I was to see montell fish in this random photography video haha also I use the neewer vision 5 and there are literally no good videos showing how good neewer flashes are so thank you you definitely earned a sub from me
ОтветитьUsing a digital camera to meter is so smart and you aren't alone! I go to school for filmmaking and learned that professional filmmakers who shoot on film sometimes double-check their exposure by using a digital camera. You still get the same desired look through using film, but what does that matter if your image isn't exposed properly? Great content as always, keep it up!!
ОтветитьGlad to hear another stepping stone in your path to greatness!!!
ОтветитьAmazing job! Thank you so much. :-)
ОтветитьHello!!! Wow the video!!! I have a mamiya 645 1000s, do you know what kind of model of transmitter and receiver could I use for my flashes kit? Thanks
ОтветитьYea the purist thing. Just chill nothing wrong with using digital cameras especially to get exposure for film it’s a win win situation. Just one thing you may have to use a full frame sensor. Because I’ve done tests at home and crop sensor at same settings let’s in less light then full frame and the film May be hot depending on what film you are using.
ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьThank you so much for this video! This is exactly what I’ve been looking for— gonna give it a try!
ОтветитьMontell Fish casually strolls in
me: 😮
this is a W collab
Cool video man, you should just get a light meter that can measure flash so you don't need to use your digital camera
ОтветитьI love using flash on film.
ОтветитьA way to meter for flash and natural light is to first meter the natural light to set the exposure time then secondly you meter the flash and match the aperture to the one from the natural light and then you have got an even exposure and can work from there. Then you don’t have to use a digital camera.
Ответитьin all seriousness dude using a digital camera is just the mark of a professional. You want to use the best tools at your disposal. Film is your medium for art, but there is no problem in using modern tools to help express your artistic vision. During all stages of film, people in the 1950's, 60's and on, all used the best tools that they could get there hands on. There was no novelty with film then, they were just cameras. These photos were insane, so crispy, great work, awesome model!
Ответитьbought this light because of you ! I'm so excited to use it on my shoots
Ответитьboth you and Montell are amazing artists <3
