Excellent documentary though many parts are propagandist and aimed at drawing the US into the war (could have helped earlier IMO thanks Cousins) I know that for national morale reasons the devastation of London and Coventry were played down at the time. I have seen some of the comments below regarding Hurricanes vs Spitfires and the nationalities of the great aircrews that bravely defended Britain, It doesn't really matter! We fucked the Nazis and showed up Goering (fat twat) and Hitler (little Corporal and failed artist) to be the useless delusional twats that they really were. The outcome was/is all that really matters.

their army's ships tanks, they have more power now than they ever did more than us now in England...don't trust any of them ever...

In this video it says that zhitler told Goering to flatout go bomb London and annihilate the city.
I thought the entire truth was a German bomber was off course at night and dropped its bombs so as not to return to base with them, thereby hitting London by mistake. Than the UK retaliates by hitting Berlin than Hitler got angry and decided to really go after London in vengeance.
That saved the airforce because Goering was pounding the bases and it was a Godsend that London was attacked sparing UKs bases.
Not sure if that was covered in this feature.

Thank god also for the polish and the chezk pilots in RAF shot down more Nazi planes than all other pilots including the RAF. Not given recognition by British at all and sent back to their countries to be shot. Good reward eh and what shame to all in British Isles . Ashamed am I.

Everybody seems to forget about the efforts of the Maintenance Units set up to repair downed RAF aircraft, its estimated that for every 10 RAF fighters seriously damaged during the Battle the M.U.’s managed to repair and put back into service 4 of them within a month, helping to supplement the new fighters coming from the factories.

In Britain today every spoken word must carefully thought out and measured this is a country where no one must be offended otherwise you could lose your livelihood. Freedom of speech is slowly being strangled.

It's a pity that Harry Booth's 1963 ''Blitz On Britain'' (Alistair Cooke's commentary) is so difficult to find. It's the best feature documentary on the
Battle of Britain.

Glad to see this from an American News reel perspective, and the truth of what would have happened if we had capitulated in 1940. Not only would Hitler have had control of Britain and its Empire, which circumnavigated the whole globe at that time, he would have had control of the largest Naval fleet in the world in 1940. Do you think USSR would had stood a chance if Germany was only fighting on one front?. And would the USA have survived if Nazi Germany had control of the North Atlantic ? I think not. Not only Britain, but the Whole of the free world had a debt of gratitude to Winston Churchill and the Last of the few that fought in the Battle of Britain.

The Hurricanes may have been slightly out dated but they were great interceptors and did a great job and there were many more of them than Spitfires in 1940

Spitfire is a iconic plane ,but don't forget the hurricane and the mosquito all played their part , my father was a fireman during the war ,and was involved with the blitz all around London docks ,but no matter what your parents done at the time ,they were all in it together ,we owe them our gratitude ,

Hitler didn't invade Britain because many of his backers were British - British banks helped fund his rise. The royal family was mostly Nazi's - why invade ?

HItler's plans to destroy COventry were known to Allied command, who had broken the German Enigma code. THey believed that protecting their code cracking as more important then Coventry so they let the raid go rather than make Hitler believe Brits had broken the code

One error I notice, the People did not choose Winston Churchill, There was never an Election for the People, He given the job of PM by the ruling elites because he was a member of the 2nd Royal Family, the Spencers. When Churchill flashed the "V" sign, it wasn't "V" for victory it was "V" for Vatican!

Thankfully the BF 109 E was not equipped with provision for drop tanks had they had that capability,they could have tipped the balance In favour of the luftwaffe.

The British order of battle was developed to make best use of each airplane's characteristics. The Spitfires with their higher speed and improved high-speed handling engaged and drew off the escorting fighters making them expend their limited fuel in dogfights. This allowed the Hurricanes that were steadier gun platforms to swarm the bombers while the escorts were otherwise occupied.

Thank God for the RAF Hurricanes as they outnumbered the Spitfires.
