Hi Dixie and friends, here is my solution to the toothpaste waste problem. I brush with baking soda. It foams up a little; and hough it does not smell minty fresh, it does help to kill odors. The waste is colorless and odorless, and harmless to plants in normal concentrations. It is also a super lightweight powder and has multiple uses, for instance as a deodorant and for cleaning.
ОтветитьLazy genius. Be a genius about the things that matter, and lazy (efficient) about the things that don't. ❤
ОтветитьThey’ve had it wrong all along. LAZY is the mother of invention.
ОтветитьThe lock laces are expensive and break easily.
ОтветитьI'm a house camper. I camp at my house.
ОтветитьThe biggest reason I still use the hiker pro pump filter is because it has a carbon insert that removes chemicals/odors/toxins and makes the water taste better. It's an extra 8oz but my water is purified, not just filtered. I'm an Aspie, so flavors can really bother me. If water is filtered but tastes bad, I'm still likely to get dehydrated.
ОтветитьHike in a skirt. It's easier than needing a "tool" to pee.
ОтветитьThis is absolutely awesome stuff! Thank you!
ОтветитьSh*t swing, someone stole my idea!! I rigged similar up with some paracord and a couple of branches many times, you can also do by attaching some cordage to your pack and be supported from your pack, handy for heavy military packs where you dont want to take your pack off, because the weather is cr*p or someone might start shooting at you...
ОтветитьHello :) these are good suggestions. I think I missed why you don't use the sawyer as a gravity filter though? I punched two holes in a 2l collapsible bottle, added a little cord and I put it higher than my rucksack while I have an opportunity to rest :) sawyer also had an accessory I use where I collect water wherever and can squeeze it directly into my bladder within my pack without removing it; I can refill while walking or whatever too, with my rucksack on :)
ОтветитьI would say that's smart not lazy. Why work more than you have to anyway just an old guy's opinion
ОтветитьThe filters that require a lot of effort to use ACTUALLY WORK! All the other non chemical filters WILL NOT REMOVE VIRUSES!
ОтветитьIm 566 miles into the PCT 2023 and going poo outside hurts my knees. I learned how to take fast poos
ОтветитьNow isn’t that the coolest 🤩
ОтветитьThat was the most boring camping video. But your voice entertained so I watch it anyways..
ОтветитьI just drink the water I find in nature if it seems fine. I am still alive.
ОтветитьHey girl! Love your posts. In the aviation world, we call the pee bottles used in small airplanes "Human Element Range Extenders HERE". I live in SW Georgia and I've been to Opelika many times. I've hiked part of the AT and worked on a trail maintenance team for the CDT in the Gila Wilderness of New Mexico. You hiked along an area I worked on. Love ya.
Ответитьso why are pumps not liked anymore? they were the go to when i was doing caming in the 80-90s. now i have a hard time finding reviews let alone items in stock. if i'm filling my canteens ( yes mil canteens from the 80s ) or my camelbak nothing fits the openings. i may have to grun and craft fittings to fix that.
ОтветитьI used my flextail this weekend its amazing!
Ответитьgreat suggestions for the trail. thank you for sharing.
ОтветитьI'm not gonna do it, I'm not gonna do it.
ОтветитьA Golf Trolly is perfectly designed for Hiking. Its meant to carry a backpack over roughish terrain. G it find out. It folds up and is super light. and you can get behind it if there is a bear, and have the spray ready.
ОтветитьLazy hiker tip: redefine “hiking” today I hiked to my mail box, I hike to my car, I hiked to the bar where I crushed some 16 oz weights (I like to do low weigh super high rep, you know: for safety.) I did so many reps I don’t even remember the hike home, but the point is you can easily combine all sorts of exercise activities if you plan and head and really just keep a open mind
ОтветитьLove you and your videos, Dixie!!!
ОтветитьPumps are needed to do better than bacteria. The GRAYL is essentially a clever pump system. Sawyer has a sponge purifier that you kneed which is another form of pumping, imho.
The Sawyer Squeeze/mini can do gravity. In fact you could connect two smart water bottles, one on each end with a coupler. Although putting the dirty water at height above the filter makes it faster.
those lock laces look perfectttttttttttt
ОтветитьVery beautiful friends ❤❤❤
ОтветитьYep
ОтветитьTry surgeon's knot instead of lock laces. When tying laces, loop twice instead of once. That holds very well. I double knot the "bowtie loop" afterwards and never have loose laces
ОтветитьA Fanny pack dedicated to snacks is good because you can put it in your bear bag/Ursack/canister at night and avoid a bear being attracted to food or smells in your pack.
ОтветитьPump sacks make a great clothing bag/pillow (put your fleece on the outside to make it extra comfy).
ОтветитьGreat advice
ОтветитьI imagine Dixie having a giant warehouse or two full of gear.
ОтветитьI feel like Bikepacking is just a lazy version of backpacking so I've been doing that.
ОтветитьHonestly I don't understand not EVER having a water pack. They just are the most convenient thing. I understand that getting name brand is expensive but PLENTY of cheaper ones exist and are just as good. Also, water filters don't filter out bacteria. I winced when you just drank water by just filtering it.
ОтветитьI love my trekking umbrella (I live in Central Texas and regularly hike in triple digits with no shade), could never get the umbrella straps to hold it properly, ended up sticking it in the strap of my sports bra. Didn't move an inch and works great lol.
Going to look into getting that pump. I've been using a stuff sack to blow up my mat. Works well, but takes more energy than I want to spare at the end of the day.
As always, good tips, and options. Thanks!
ОтветитьCombination of Sawyer squeeze on trail, purification drops for in-camp water supply.
ОтветитьHave you tried the BeeFree water filter from Katadyn? I used to work for Cascade Designs, specifically on water filters. I got them started into hollow fiber technology. Have used the sawyer product as well. The Bee Free is better than all of these.
Ответитьyou had me at "lock laces" I have this problem when just walking around wearing sneakers
Ответить"I like 'Shit Swing'."
Ответить68 dollar for a toilet 😂 the one at home was about the same
ОтветитьLove the shit swing!
ОтветитьI'm looking for an Nalgene Adapter (from Wide Mouth to small Opening) to attach my Sawyer Filter, but I don't need a whole Set like the Source Convertube. Does anyone know an Alternative which is sold separately? (and is available in Europe :D) Thanks! ;)
ОтветитьWith the advent of female urinary devices, they finally became the equals of men!
They can now write their names in the snow. ;)
Now, shouldn't this be called the Rich and Lazy Gear thread? ChaCHING.
I love watching her and listening to her. She could be hyper sexualized but she isn't. While am a guy, I like a break from all that that. She is much like the outdoors... pretty, but very matter of fact, and even "harsh" in that somethings are, "it is what it is". Most of the guys and gals doing hiking videos are very decent people.
ОтветитьNice innovative ideas.
ОтветитьWhat is a camplart?
