Hi Dixie and friends, here is my solution to the toothpaste waste problem. I brush with baking soda. It foams up a little; and hough it does not smell minty fresh, it does help to kill odors. The waste is colorless and odorless, and harmless to plants in normal concentrations. It is also a super lightweight powder and has multiple uses, for instance as a deodorant and for cleaning.

Lazy genius. Be a genius about the things that matter, and lazy (efficient) about the things that don't. ❤

The biggest reason I still use the hiker pro pump filter is because it has a carbon insert that removes chemicals/odors/toxins and makes the water taste better. It's an extra 8oz but my water is purified, not just filtered. I'm an Aspie, so flavors can really bother me. If water is filtered but tastes bad, I'm still likely to get dehydrated.

Hike in a skirt. It's easier than needing a "tool" to pee.

Sh*t swing, someone stole my idea!! I rigged similar up with some paracord and a couple of branches many times, you can also do by attaching some cordage to your pack and be supported from your pack, handy for heavy military packs where you dont want to take your pack off, because the weather is cr*p or someone might start shooting at you...

Hello :) these are good suggestions. I think I missed why you don't use the sawyer as a gravity filter though? I punched two holes in a 2l collapsible bottle, added a little cord and I put it higher than my rucksack while I have an opportunity to rest :) sawyer also had an accessory I use where I collect water wherever and can squeeze it directly into my bladder within my pack without removing it; I can refill while walking or whatever too, with my rucksack on :)

The filters that require a lot of effort to use ACTUALLY WORK! All the other non chemical filters WILL NOT REMOVE VIRUSES!

Hey girl! Love your posts. In the aviation world, we call the pee bottles used in small airplanes "Human Element Range Extenders HERE". I live in SW Georgia and I've been to Opelika many times. I've hiked part of the AT and worked on a trail maintenance team for the CDT in the Gila Wilderness of New Mexico. You hiked along an area I worked on. Love ya.

so why are pumps not liked anymore? they were the go to when i was doing caming in the 80-90s. now i have a hard time finding reviews let alone items in stock. if i'm filling my canteens ( yes mil canteens from the 80s ) or my camelbak nothing fits the openings. i may have to grun and craft fittings to fix that.

A Golf Trolly is perfectly designed for Hiking. Its meant to carry a backpack over roughish terrain. G it find out. It folds up and is super light. and you can get behind it if there is a bear, and have the spray ready.

Lazy hiker tip: redefine “hiking” today I hiked to my mail box, I hike to my car, I hiked to the bar where I crushed some 16 oz weights (I like to do low weigh super high rep, you know: for safety.) I did so many reps I don’t even remember the hike home, but the point is you can easily combine all sorts of exercise activities if you plan and head and really just keep a open mind

Pumps are needed to do better than bacteria. The GRAYL is essentially a clever pump system. Sawyer has a sponge purifier that you kneed which is another form of pumping, imho.

The Sawyer Squeeze/mini can do gravity. In fact you could connect two smart water bottles, one on each end with a coupler. Although putting the dirty water at height above the filter makes it faster.

Try surgeon's knot instead of lock laces. When tying laces, loop twice instead of once. That holds very well. I double knot the "bowtie loop" afterwards and never have loose laces

A Fanny pack dedicated to snacks is good because you can put it in your bear bag/Ursack/canister at night and avoid a bear being attracted to food or smells in your pack.

Honestly I don't understand not EVER having a water pack. They just are the most convenient thing. I understand that getting name brand is expensive but PLENTY of cheaper ones exist and are just as good. Also, water filters don't filter out bacteria. I winced when you just drank water by just filtering it.

I love my trekking umbrella (I live in Central Texas and regularly hike in triple digits with no shade), could never get the umbrella straps to hold it properly, ended up sticking it in the strap of my sports bra. Didn't move an inch and works great lol.

Going to look into getting that pump. I've been using a stuff sack to blow up my mat. Works well, but takes more energy than I want to spare at the end of the day.

Have you tried the BeeFree water filter from Katadyn? I used to work for Cascade Designs, specifically on water filters. I got them started into hollow fiber technology. Have used the sawyer product as well. The Bee Free is better than all of these.

I love watching her and listening to her. She could be hyper sexualized but she isn't. While am a guy, I like a break from all that that. She is much like the outdoors... pretty, but very matter of fact, and even "harsh" in that somethings are, "it is what it is". Most of the guys and gals doing hiking videos are very decent people.
