I think the entire country needs to change its foul attitude towards the unemployed. The payment needs to be linked to the pension, not inflation. Those who hate the unemployed should themselves go without work and be stigmatised. We don’t talk about the cost of looking after old people do we?

What people need to remember is that half the people on Jobseeker are those who are unable to work due to illness. I was on it for a couple of months last year while waiting for my income protection insurance to begin (which is ridiculous that there are waiting periods for insurance that you pay for). I don’t know how people who have to rely on Jobseeker for longer periods of time do it.

It wasn't that Long ago that the Pension was $944 a fortnight and Sco Mo was handing out $1167 a fortnight to the job Seeker's. Most that I knew were on ICE (Crystal Meth) and they partied like it was the roaring 40's . Tas Housing held their rent at $60 a week as opposed to a Pensioner like myself who was paying $107 a week for a one bedroom unit.None , if any saved any of the money and now they are in dire poverty . Air B n B's are 7 the amount on the mainland . Interest Rates were down tom 0.1 percent . Now 4.00 percent. National Debt blew out to 1 Trillion and the labor government were saddled with the job of trying to do the impossible and clean up Morison's mess. Both him and his sidekick Friedenberg destroyed this country and you will never ever see a homeless refugee or pretend refugee. Yet despite ALBO trying hard and achieving great results , people still bag him out. he is the best PM we have had since Howard. I live in Clark so I voted for Andrew Wilkie. Tasmania have waiting lists beyond comprehension and still they import more and more immigrants who wander around like brown's Cow's with 7 kids and one in the oven wearing burkhas and headed for centrelink and none of them are homeless. Yet our own citizen's are. How did it get this way ? Our Premier Rockcliffe is an ex Potato farmer .

Australia simply can't afford to not lift it above the poverty line. This isn't a third world country, and your people shouldn't be turning up to job interviews looking broken and drained. It's disgusting.

You could afford it if you stopped paying for job agencies to do nothing but waste your petrol turning up to useless compliance appointments and got the CES BACK.

The cost of living has left the jobseeker payment behind .
A deal was made with labour in parliament so that the new industrial relations laws could pass and be implemented.
And the deal was that jobseeker and some other payments must be reviewed at every federal budget .
The award rate for retail staff is $23.50 an hour as a reference point .
A ten to twenty dollar a day increase is reasonable due to the massive cost of living increases including excessive rent increases.
Just my personal opinion on the amount it needs to be increased.

The report is out and it is damning.
Will the Labor government listen though?

I'm predicting lots of excuses for why they can't afford a decent increase and a token small increase to pay themselves on the back with.

With around 40% of JobSeeker recipients unable to work full time due to health conditions acknowledged by Centrelink, the situation is atrocious.

Unfortunately most employed people wrongly assume the sick people qualify for Disability.
