I FINALLY TRIED SWEDISH DEATH CLEANING (and it actually works!!!)

I lived in a mobile home in Texas. Every time it was announced that a possible tirnado would be coming... I'd run around and clean everything. My mom asked me why, because, she reasoned, if we go hit by the tornado everything would be a mess anyway. I still clean when I'm stressed.

I have done that for my 70th birthday gifts from grands.

But where do you take all of the crap? The trash dump is only open during work hours and they charge you to take your trash… and there’s not one real close to my house. To donate clothes they all have to be freshly washed… and can you pull up to donate whole uhauls full?

All this time, I thought it was sort of a parody of Swedish Death Metal and that it basically just meant aggressive/violent organizing 😂

I have a LOT of craft items. You can literally go into the craft room and find just about anything you need for a crafting idea or just go in and have months or years of crafting from making wired pendants to beaded jewelry or cricut projects. All kinds of painting and fabric things to tie dye or make purses/cloths. Resin stuff, stickers scissors sparkles ……It’s unreal, that’s just off the top of my head.
I want to keep it all but it’s organization that’s killing me.

It’s a MESS I’m so busy cleaning the house all the time I put this last.

I'm not into this. I am still alive, so I should get to keep the things that I purchased and enjoy, and when I am gone, people can keep it og give it away. Life is not about cleaning and having a showcase home, it's about surrounding yourself with people and things that makes you feel good. Don't make people feel bad, because they have a bit of clutter, you don't know what happened in their lives, or the struggles they go through.

QUESTION: I declutter a lot, but i have a terrible habit of not taking the “donation bags/boxes” to their intended places. So, they end up cluttering my car or basement room (i work from home, & my office is in the basement room. Essentially I’m just adding visual clutter to an important space). How do you stay motivated to drop the items off? (I’m a procrastinator). Is it just pure self-discipline? Advice from anyone that’s experienced this is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Just did a 4th deep dive into my closet this year. I have a donate box that is finally just about full. I found that some of the organizing hangers just made things worse. I now fold my jeans and pants on a shelf that were full of shoes. Shoes are gone. Jeans and pants are easy to see to pull an outfit together. Shoes that were under the bed are gone as well.
Off season cloths are in storage bags in a cedar chest . I store them sideways so I can see in the clear side. I can lift it out if weather shifts and I need an item. I find now everytime I switch seasons I purge more.
We are moving next year and I have begun the purge. I have so much more to go. I have no desire to move stuff I don't need. However I find that I get stuck in a closet and don't move thru the whole house. So my goal is to go room to room , and the garage ,section by section. Wish me luck.

I really enjoyed your video and it carries the biggest truth no one can ever deny …and that is with each second we are a second closer to our death. Yet it is so unbelievable that we plan as if we are going to be here for ever! Your video was a very good reminder of that. As Muslims we believe that is world and all that it has, is temporary and the eternal life would be after we would be judged on the basis of our actions in this temporary life. Yet, believe it or not, it still is so difficult to have this mindset that this life is but temporary. I can tell you’re not a fashion person haha my mother kept pieces of her mothers from the 1940’s and 50’s and her sister who passed away from the 19-60’s and 70’s and I absolutely treasure those pieces, I wear them all the time. I feel like good leather jackets would be a piece from someone who has passed that your children would love to have. Something that was well made, and beautiful today, will still be that in the future and possibly even appreciate in value.

But wait, all those crafts that you can make as an empty nester one day 😂😊

Wow, this was so good. I've had a huge week and I'm spending today at home, trying to declutter my cookbooks and bits of paper with recipes - for someone who doesn't like to cook it's ridiculous. But watching this has really inspired me, thank you.

I chip away at clutter day by day or once a week . It really helps.

Though I’m seeing this a year later, those book jackets would make a neat decoupage something for a kid’s room/table top/wall art. Also, another way of wrapping your head around super decluttering: if you lost everything in a hurricane, what would be the biggest loss in regards to your stuff? Those are things you keep and the rest can just go. We lost everything to a hurricane, and it wasn’t until then that I realized that this is all stuff. Just…stuff. The hurricane had wiped the slate clean. And taught me less is best. Side Note: my grandmother didn’t tidy before bed in case she was murdered…she’s put on her makeup. Yup. She do her makeup so, if she was murdered or died of natural causes, she’d look her best for the EMTs. 😮😮😮
