I personally think the original survivors are a little more survivor-like, having beards and a lot of hair because you can't really expect to always have something to shave with. And all the pockets, knee pads and so on. (I'm clearly a sucker for a dark and gritty atmosphere if you don't know) But I understand why instead of making it look like Half-life 2, they decided a mix between Team fortresses 2's design and Half-life.

yeahhh!!! I loved how worn out and battle hardened the original looked, but it didn't make sense due to how recent the outbreak was(unless the original story was different)

I would imagine that the redesigns helped to make them stand out a bit more from the background.

Fun facts: Francis' beta face model was reused for one of the members of the Midnight Riders in L4D2, Zoey's beta face model was based off Chell from Portal. Bill and Louis (dude went bald) remained the same.

Well, it looked quite amazing than the final version itself.

I think Word War Z has much more similar characters resembling L4D Beta characters.

I absolutely agree on the designs of the retail version look like a middleground of TF2 and Half-Life, finally someone that also noticed that :))

I would've preferred Beta Francis as they actually gave him a beer belly and bigger arms. When have you ever seen a fit biker? All they do is eat meat and drink beer and they work out they mostly do their arms and chest.

I personnally prefer the original/beta versions of the survivors. They look better, they look more realistic and they have a lot more details than the retail survivors.

Beta Zoey’s face model is Alesia Glidewell, the same model for Chell in Portal. She is of Japanese and Brazilian descent.

I always thought Zoey was Latina because of her dark hair, concept art, and the fact that she speaks Spanish at least once in the regular English dub.

I always, and still do believe everything about Early 2008 was better than Retail. Much better design, lighting, texture work, and the small details like viewmodel arms on ladders really made the game impressive.

I remember one time I was on the xbox app on my phone I played l4d on xbox 360 and decided to use the backwards compatible feature anyways when I checked the game information on the xbox app along with my xbox one it had the beta pictures I was confused can anyone explain this ?

Turtleneck's Survivors looked like they were a year or three deep into the Apocalypse while Valve's Survivor's look like the 2 weeks prior Apocalypse caught them during their daily life and had little to no time to change into more appropriate clothing, all except for Bill.
