I rarely sell on Marketplace and the first bite I got today was saying they can only pay with Venmo or Zelle. My gut said something is fishy. When I said I only wanted cash, I didn't hear back from them.

Basically, with the possible exception of Market Place, if you see something for sale on FB it's a scam.

Thanks for a great video, I'm in the UK and selling any thing on Marketplace is a nightmare! I will only ever accept cash and that does help keeping the scammers at bay. I also find anytime I buy anything on line (only ever from reputable companies) I am bombarded with scam emails! Thanks again, and stay lucky

The other thing they want your email and phone number for is they will try to log into your Facebook account and when Facebook texts you a code to reset your password the scammer tries to get you to tell it to them telling you it’s a payment confirmation code or whatever. They want to lock you out of your own account to use your account to post their own scam ads

I don't buy / sell much but when I do I meet at a public place. I don't want them to come to my home, and I don't want to go to their home. Could be scoping me out, or could pull some shit and there's no witness.

I had that EXACT issue with FB Market place and Zelle.
Messaged me immediately after I posted the product asking if they could buy it. They then said that their sister would come and pick it up. And then the whole issue with Zelle and needing a “business account” happened. I can’t believe I wasted nearly 2 hours of my life stressing over how I’d get payed for my product when really, it was a scammer. Thankfully I blocked the user and reported them. They didn’t get any of my money.

b market place is a skam place. Recently i account got hacked, people address me and i can see people contacting me for items i never advertised and potential buyers responded. I get this multiple times a day. I tried following many linked to changed password, cancel account and remove account, but none of that works. FB obviously don't want you to cancel/remove your account but that is favouring potential scammers. I regret opening a fb account, now im stuck

I've had 2 people offer $ in response to my FB Marketplace ad.
I check their profile first to see if they have much activity on their page, or if they live anywhere near me.
I declined both offers as the face book profiles looked bogus.
All of my ads are "cash only," and meeting someplace local.
I'll keep the tips mentioned here in mind, as well.
Always be careful - there are bad actors out there!!

Cash is king period! Any other form of payment using online applications is a no no. You as the sender/receiver are not protected unless you pay for the service which makes the whole buying and selling aspect more expensive. Anyone has the ability to cancel and refute a transaction even if it has been cleared. Disputes like this happen all the time which in most cases both parties accounts will be terminated even if fault wasn't yours. Stick with cash! My 2cents.

I was househunting for a place to rent in New Mexico a few months ago. Found one cheap but not too cheap place. Seller wanted me to make the initial payment with one of those apps, Zelle, Venmo or some other. I had never heard of those before, so assumed it was a scam. But was it? Do regular people, non-scammers, use those apps in real life?

Having heard of so many scams going on Facebook by folks who just trusted the instructions of the scammer makes me wonder how many of those being scammed are first time victims.

Why are they so gullible to believe total strangers our mother, fathers on down telling us "beware of strangers" over and over until we left home for our own reasons?

The complicated way they use to get you to believe you they are legitimate is (to me) a huge problem with me.

Is the population of gullible people that big that con artists can make a good living scamming people who are easy targets?

I’m having some problems selling on Facebook marketplace. On a few of my items I didn’t accept the amount they offered or they bought the item for less and I didn’t accept.I then couldn’t edit or delete the post? The last order today was a concert shirt I lowered the price I wanted on messenger to someone from $110 to $90.Only $90.I then see it was bought without my approval for $70?

One error . . . PayPal and Venmo payments CAN be ripped back from seller's account. It has happened to me and PayPal was no help. The buyer tried to keep the merchandise AND ripped my payment back. I had to get the police involved to get my money back. PayPal / Venmo rip-backs is how the overpayment for shipping scam works.

Cas only solves all. People don’t realize that if you use Zelle, PayPal, or any other one they can always go back to the bank and say they never receive the item and they will reverse the charge for the buyer

Here in Thailand there are currently about 10 'companies' selling ex pawned M/cycles. There are NO bikes, they just want a 3,000 Baht deposit. I have tried informing F/B and Marketplace. No real response. They (f/b) must know but ignore it. Same as the Rolex, Omega watches for 1000Baht ($ 30) Disgusted with them!

Any chance of getting off of facebook and creating a alternative online classifieds to buy, sell, trade and post wanted listings? It's too much work to get on here and established only to have facebook ban or block me from their buying/selling groups while allowing many of these spammers and scammers to make many hundreds of thousands of posts. Makes me wonder if facebook has some partnership with them. Did I violate facebook's policy by blocking obvious spammers or scammers?
