That's definitely a classic pedal. Kurt Cobain obviously thought so too.
I remember my uncle using it (R.I.P.) and, the influence he had on me making me want to learn to play many moons ago.
The DS-1 will always have a place in my heart`s pedalboard.
I have known guitar players who never listen to advice! Who will go out, buy a pedal, max out settings and sound like crap! and then toss the pedal away! Say it’s rubbish and then go get another pedal :) never ever pay attention to their amp, guitar, pedal settings! want everything to just happen instant! then they get multi effects with amp sims! funniest comment I may have heard was from a guitar player that had the latest multi effects! Said, what’s the point of owning a Marshall if your pedal does the stack sound???? and then he played! Sounding like an angry bee :) it’s comic
ОтветитьI have one and haven't tried it yet.
I also have a mojo Mojo I love.
I think it sounded great with your SG. Better just a tad with the amp already overdriven, but still great with the clean amp. ♥️🤘♥️
I'm 61 and have been playing 45 years plus and I used to always use the amp for distortion back in the day if possible, but I also had a fender twin and a Peavey ranger that you had to use a distortion thru to get 80s tones and I used a rat which was great back then.
I also use, or have used an SD1 which is great as a boost and wonder if you used a clean amp and then the ds1 for just a break up tone and pushed it with an SD1 if it would sound even better or a tube screamer by staking with it. I agree you must be at unity gain or louder. I like to go between 3db and 7db louder for oeads in case the FOH guy is hitting on a girl or falls asleep. 😂😂..
Good video sir. Just found you. Thanks.
Tim.
Indiana. USA. ♥️🤘
Love the De Niro face btw. The DS1 was supposedly designed as a multi-instrumental pedal to be even used with keyboards so, that's why you have to be just extra aware of that tone knob.
ОтветитьI’m getting one lol
ОтветитьNo ,actually it pretty well sucks when compared to some other distortion pedals. Tbh
ОтветитьDS-1 is one of my favourite pedals from my BOSS pedals fleet. A real working horse both for studio work and live gigs, well built and packed with great sound.
The video is really good, a must to see for those who think DS-1 is good for nothing.
I used OD3+DS1+GE7 It's good for me✔✔👍👍🆗🆗🆒🆒😍😍
ОтветитьThere are now some amazing videos on this pedal. This is one em'! I imagine you can raise the tone with darker sounding humbuckers, but would keep it low on single coils?
ОтветитьI just could not get this pedal to sound good for me. I’ve had it for about 15 years and decided to sell it.
ОтветитьHi Jack, I really enjoy your videos. I want to tell you, and I hope you don’t get offended. Something tells me that you can do one hell of a Robert De Niro impression. Please do an impression video if you haven’t already.
Take care bud.
Started playing a few months ago, baught this pedal at guitar center, wasn't quite sure what I was looking for in pedals but I've already fell in love with it
ОтветитьI love the DS1. That said, it really depends the amp you use. I have Yamaha DG60, THR5, Blackstar FLy3 and Blackstar 10e. With first 3 amps the pedal works fine but in different ways of course. However with the last one the pedal sounds like shit unless I turn the tone and gain all the way down.
It's funny really.
It’s one of my favorite pedal ever!! It’s the perfect distortion for my Supro amp. I have just bought the DS-1 Wazacraft and the Custom mode is amazing!!! On a clean Supro amp is so perfect.
ОтветитьI got a DS-1 with the Keeley mod and I love it!!!!
ОтветитьGreat Pedal!
ОтветитьThe worst thing about the ds1 is the volume drop. More people would like it if we didn’t have to deal with that.
Ответитьtrying to find a pedal and have heard a lot of great things about this. Really thinking about it.
ОтветитьI use a 1983 DS-1. Big difference Vs Taiwan DS1s
ОтветитьWorks for me when I want a boost for leads and power chords with my strat + Princeton reverb. I just keep the distortion fairly low and the tone dialed to the right spot. It's very easy to make this pedal sound bad, but if you know how to use it then it works well.
Ответитьthanks but I did not like the distortion you played so I suppose I should return the pedal I purchased yesterday and it is on the way
Ответитьlong time back I accidentally plugged my old DS1 into an AC adapter and of course it stopped working. Almost threw it out but eventually got around to attempting a fix. A 0.26 cent diode did the trick.
ОтветитьThe cardinal rule to use this pedal is to play it through a already driven TUBE amp, not through a solid state or modeling amp. This pedal was made and designed in the late 70s to be played through a tube amp and is voiced that way. Most millennials are tone deaf and are afraid to play with the knob settings. Millennials are slaves to their gear, they set everything at noon 😂😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьHave one. Don't like it.
ОтветитьGE7 + DS1 + SG on a clean amp = awesome
Ответитьsick intro jam!
ОтветитьBut there are too many better drive pedals than DS-1....
ОтветитьMediocre pedal not good for metal only good for hard rock and blue's.
ОтветитьIts the only must have pedal in my life since 1993
ОтветитьI always love boss ds1
ОтветитьWas my first pedal back in '82.sounds like a whole new beast when you stack a boss sd1 after it
ОтветитьYes l am one of millions who own this pedal. I like the fact that it has a nice bass response. I set the tone 9 o'clock, drive 7 o'clock vol. 2 o'clock. Just a little dirt into a boosted semi clean tube amp!
ОтветитьBoss ds1 + dd3 must have ❤
Ответитьdifferent guitar reacts to the pedal differently especially the pickups & amps. so any pedal is good as long its tweaked accordingly.
ОтветитьI don't think ppl are wrong.
I think it was ppls first distortion pedal. Im still learning to like it though.
And i know as someone who just recently picked up guitar, the knobs and words are easy to understand along with the basic function.
But putting that into practice is a whole other thing.
I like od more than fuzz or distortion.
But I'm really learning to like distortion too.
There's a ton of harmonics in that pedal.
A ton.
Throw an sd1 or really a kind of tube screamer in front of it, and you keep the harmonics and lose the fizzle.
The sd1 works well. i just learned it clips the lows .
But I've also learned get the amp loud and eq good. Then, use your guitar knobs and the amount of tone you can get is pretty substantial.
I can sound close enough to most tones i want here in the bedroom.
I like to run it with the gain down into an amp just in the edge. As long as the amp is compressing just a tad, but still clean, it sounds very good. Then stacking it with another more mid heavy od, chefs kiss
ОтветитьI had a ds1 on my board until I got the bd2. Bd 2 hasn't left and probably never will.
ОтветитьYes it is awesome
ОтветитьNice but, I have my secret setting for this pedal :)
ОтветитьReally? How, when it's the cheapest distortion on the market!
ОтветитьI'm currently using a dod gunslinger mosfet dist pedal in front of my ds1 going into my line 6 spider v20 I get so much out of it I love the cheeper pedals
ОтветитьThis was my first pedal. Used it throughout high school and then stopped using pedals altogether. Came back to pedals and this went onto my board for a bit. I took it off for a different OD. I've since rearranged my drive pedals and your video is making me reconsider adding it back.
ОтветитьI have several DS 1 pedals oldest is an 82 and the newests is a 97 all I find to be extremely usable. They can be used side by side with a Blues Driver as well as with a Duallist and many others.
ОтветитьI did use this pedal for years and I liked it very much! After the DS-1 I've got a Marshall Jackhammer JH-1 and thereafter a NUX Plexi Crunch – all great pedals! When I'm done with my NUX I'll definitely buy a DS-1 again and combine it with a GE-7 to get even more out of it! 😊
ОтветитьI like this
ОтветитьStacked with an overdrive or ts bring out the magic ✨. It's so good, easy to figure out why they have sold millions of them. I would add that it's probably the first pedal needed for any player looking for gain. NO REGRETS, LOVED BY MANY
