Wow, when i was a kid back in the 80s I used to record songs off the radio by placing a tape recorded next to the radio.
The quality was shit, the same as you are getting here with this retarded backwards way of doing things.
Get a DAW, get an audio interface, get some digital effects and move out of the fucking stone age.
This is not the 60s anymore.

Some of us beginners would need much more basic info. What is ALL the equipment needed to mike our amps and how are they hooked up. Just a mike and mike placement is really really short on info.

For beginners? Where is the mic plugged into if you have basic equipment and you are not using a computer or PA system. Put another way, what is the basic setup for a beginner? Before mic placement, I think a beginner needs to know the basic equipment and setup.

Where is the mike being plugged in? Are you plugging the mike into a second input on the same guitar amp? Are you using a separate amp or PA? Could you clarify? Thanks. . .

How loud are you supposed to turn the amp when recording in this way? I'm having trouble getting a healthy balance of letting my tone through, without clipping the mic too hard

Excellent! Always a fun part of recording AND performing. Then once you have it "nailed", you'll still need to tweak it here and there as needed. So many factors involved with room acoustics as well. Great video!
