Why Channel 37 Doesn’t Exist

In most of North America, there are no channels broadcasting above channel 36 after the recent repack. Channels 38-51 were sold off to wireless carriers for 5G.

I'm reminded of a 'little' (2-feet cubed) black-and-white TV I had, with settings for about 80 channels on the channel dials but--since we didn't have cable (which might've been more of a rarity in those days :-)) )--all of the 'channels' were nothing-but-static except for about 6 or (some days) 7 broadcast channels

Secondly, I could not care less that some scientists are not able to communicate with aliens. At our level of development I can't think of anything more foolish than to contact another civilization in this galaxy.

Maybe I'm missing something, but in the 90s on broadcast television, where I live we had channels 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 24, 30. So, like, ten channels. In the sixties did they have all the signals used up to and beyond 37 or something? Like, they were using all 83 TV channels and needed all the UHF frequencies? Why did they care about giving up one channel?

Our uhf stations were 39, 41, and 43 Denver's channel 2, 6, and 4 respectively.......2 was an ind, 6 was pbs and 4 was nbc..... we had only 1 channel here til i was like 11 or 12 then got abc...... so we had to get the big antenna and it still barely came in!!!! Up where i live we STILL can't get cable..... not enough density for the cable co to run it all the way up where i live!!! Mostly vinyards and orchards..... too few houses!!!! Thank God for satelite!!!!

You should keep up with current events. The FCC, now composed of current and former executives of the wireless industry, have re-allocated the entire UHF TV spectrum above channel 34, including 608-614 mhz, to the wireless industry for use by cellphones and WiFi networks. Corporate greed is the prime driving force of government corruption.

I've seen channel 37 used for fake stations in movies. But after the FCC repack for OTA TV the highest channel that will exist will be 36.

Ok, So why didn't they just renumber the channels? You could still have 37 if they did that. Like you have have enough channels they jump from 36 to 38 you could simply rename 38 to 37 and so on continue the renumber system so there's no real need to have a "channel jump".
