Judging from the cold war to today, America does like to escalate tensions

As for the missles left in the silos - many scenarios of nuclear exchange do not involve a full 100% deployment - most of them leave at least 20% in reserve for the follow strikes if need be (and that is what the instalation artyom investigates was tasked with - to gather intel for follow up strikes) and additional deterance is some third party would want to invade afterwards. So leaving some missles in would be typical of that mindset - and on top of that some might have failed to launch or the crews manning the silos refused to do so because yes human element is a factor in this as well.

Also russia has put a lot of its nukes not in hardened silos but on mobile platforms that would have to be deployed into the field before hand and those might have stayed in their predeployment bases.

Also the animation kinda leaves out the nukes launched from subs - (except the one in the India sea) which acounts for around 1/3rd of total nukes that could be launched - this is intentional to allow for the retaliatory strikes if someone used alpha/first strike.

I do not agree that the attack was unexpected - in one of games and novels it was stated that tensions were rising thus money and equipment and supplies were distributed to prepare for a possible escalation and the the said supplies and effort was also put into the moscows metro system - old tunels and machinery were being repaired and stacked with supplies - So the attack didn't come out from nowhere - which mens while tensions were high there was some expectation on the russian side that this might happen.

Maybe the American's were also scared like Russian's you can see in the game radio silence, execution of visitors and any chance of anyone outside noticing the survival of Moscow that may be the same deal in the USA

"nukes with lousy accuracy" i mean, just hitting the mountains where the base is seems very accurate, inaccurate would be it missed the mountain completely.

though i geuss nukes have a different term for accuracy cause well, their nukes.

This is a very posible esenario... in usa the order to launch de nuke is direct from the president. In rusia, it is order from the chairman to general and general need confirmation of some other polictical oficer.

The territories initially being depicted can be pinpointed as Isarel and Iran. This is the most logical iteration of events - considering the strong alliances between Isarael and US, and between Russia and Iran. I am skeptical this is coincidental, but actually reflects the plausible scenario for WWIII we face in real life. Also, I do not think the nukes launched via submarine are just an 'artistic demonstration'. Isarel nor Iran is known to have nuclear submarines programs, instead they are most famously possessed by Russia and US. Either the US or Russia most likely launched nukes via submarine, launching the rest of the countries' involvement. This also makes most sense, as submarines allow for plausible deniability, making it the most likely way a 3rd party could get involved.

The time-lapsed map seems to be developed by highly educated/informed person(s). It's actually very interesting seeing how sensical the depiction was, to the small details.

I'm kinda late to the party here, but the triangle point in Texas is roughly where Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood) is located. It's one of the largest, if not the largest, military installations in the US.

That's a whole Lotta heartland and Canada and Mexico untouched. This has a warhammer 40k problem where we're gonna have to add a 0 to any numbers above 9 to make this setting work. Multiply those nukes by 10 to make this setting feasible. I'm downright optimistic for the future if that was all the nukes used.

To be honest, considering being a “dooms day prepar” are a decent enough number of people’s pass time; the government’s plans in the event of a nuclear war with bunkers built and updated, and our own series of metros in some major cities; and the fact that the middle of America is unlikely to be targeted because there is pretty much nothing there other than the Great Plains; and having mines in many of our mountains; I honestly expect there to be a lot more people alive compared to what happened in Russia. Especially as (I haven’t crossed the bridge yet in exodus, that is the extent of my knowledge) Nato is supposed to still be active and nato was largely funded by America. Though I am curious what happened to even start this war. Was it the aliens/dark ones/ angels?

With America shooting first it makes sense they are in much better shape. Those Russian missiles firing over Moscow would have been scrambled by the American nuke. Thus, by initiating a first strike Russia likely doesn't respond to until impact (Russia has a history of thinking U.S nukes are coming and not acting just in case) the U.S is able to take out a huge chunk if not a majority of Russia's missiles before they fire. I think that explains how the U.S infrastructure, technology, society, and Population seems so much more intact than Russia's.

Historically speaking, there's been a few incidents where computer glitches and radar error led soviet officers to believe there was an incoming US attack. This could leave a very wide potential that silo operators had become complacent until the very last moment

I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain that a nuclear winter cannot be localized to just Russia. The entire idea is that so much debris is thrown up into the atmosphere that it cooled the planet. This would be a global cooling, not localized. Maybe I misinterpreted what I heard.

Either way, thanks for the video. Helps make me want to go back to finally beat the 2nd game then move on to the third. Always end up getting distracted.

After hearing of Russian war capabilities irl, it's not surprising their communications and detection were sub par. The corruption within Russia and the embezzlement of money from key sectors by oligarchs would have have weakened the military greatly. It wouldnt be surprising that Russia is behind in weapons technology either

I'd say the arms dealer is gonna have to worry about, whatever is left of the US Navy sinking him. Since, the US got so mildly (by comparison) hit. It's impossible for most of our nuke subs and I'd even say most of our surface fleet to be out of the fight. I always thought it too dangerous, for that ending, for them to be surfaced like that and just hanging out.
