Have the 1.0 Tce, has a great kick from the turbo and is really zippy, although not the most fuel efficient due to the engine size

As a Frenchman the choice between a Clio 5 and a 208 is really hard, but considering the prices and what you get for it, i would rather go with a Clio even though i rather Peugeot in general

We've been out testing a clio 2022 and 2023 model. The feel of the drive is great and very similar to peugeot 208 for me which i last tried in 2018. The features like back camera, sensors were really helpful. It gave a secure feeling.

The downside I feel is, backseats are very uncomfortable specially for a taller person. It's easy to get in, but uncomfortable to get out as the back seats are lower, and the car body of the side of the car is higher. For longer routes I think it can get uncomfortable for back passengers.

So Matt would you the recommend the Ibiza as the best all round when living in a very compact Spanish Town, Am selling my F Type coupe after two years of ownership has only covered 14500 km. making it an expensive shopping trolley - time to drive something more suited to my needs

It might be premium inside but the corsa and 208 look more interesting

just drove the Tce 90HP, very comfortable and great engine. No pain in my back after driving ~400 km. I struggled with the media entertainment, but frankly I did not spend much time investigating how it works.

BUYER BEWARE DO NOT BUY THE HYBRID VERSION. I bought one in 2022 expecting for a high mpg after reading Renault's blurb i.e. travelling 80% on electric and driving as long as possible on electric, yes that is total BS. The first few months it appeared to be okay however when the temp drops and you need to use the heating fan the ICE will work nearly continuously you will loose at least 10mpg, at first I thought the car had a fault and returned it to my local dealer, they clearly knew the problem before I turned up because they had a mechanic waiting to speak to me he explained that even the EV battery was fully charged if the electrical load i.e. your fan is on it won't switch to the EV mode until the engine is fully warmed up, so local short trips will just use the ICE, so to get around this I switch the fan off until the windscreen mists up to use the EV mode. I am currently in dispute with Renault after learning other makes of cars don't suffer from this problem.

This is the worst and the most unstable car I've ever driven!

Bought it, drove it for 5 days and than took a massive loss on reselling it.

The car is unstable at 30-40 km/h, it wants to kill you at 90-120 and a few days ago it almost did kill me at 170km/h.

I was driving straight. The road was clear and dry. High quality new road with NO cars on it. I was driving around 170-180. New michellin tires.
Around a kilometer in front I started to see some traffic, I gently started decelerating and as soon as I took off the foot from the accelerator and barely touched the brake - the car LOST IT. It went from side to side to side and what's worse - the car CUT OFF THE GAS PEDAL so I couldn't get it straight! (for my american friends, here when we have unstable FWD cars, a push to the throttle straightens it up)

I almost died.

It was dry, straight and no traffic... how? Bad electronic stability control.

The same thing happened to me in the city at around 30-40 km/h when I drove around a drunk driver. The car lost it's rear and and once again it blocked my gas pedal input so I ALMOST ended up hitting a pedestrian.


This car is dangerous. I hope nobody ever buys it for themselves or their loved ones.

Upon publishing my rant, I had a dear friend of mine tell me she almost died in a horrible car crash due to this exact issue.
My brother almost died that way also, my mother once as well. Now, 6 people in total reported this thing happening.

How is it possible that nobody talks about it?

What is the difference between the Clio and Magene

Europe clearly knows how to do things right....the fact that a car like this is as cheap for the fantastic value in the low 20k's while in America this would be in the mid 30s.....and europe has higher wages

Worth noting that the Apple Carplay is only via a USB cable. The Easylink unit does appear capable of Wireless Carplay and WiFi, but it's disabled in UK Clios, and ability to code/add options is blocked. The wireless charging also doesn't like the Magsafe charging in iPhones and complains that there's a metal object on the charging pad (presumably the magnets). Just not as well thought through as some other manufacturers.
Guess plugging a cable in isn't the end of the world, but just frustrating knowing the capability is there but they've chosen not to let you have it.

Good review Matt. The new Clio looks like a decent small car - for the first time in years. Renault should resurrect the 'Gordini' name and make a Gordini version of this Clio. It would look the business.

Bought new Clio in 2013 and still have it, been totally trouble free, absolutely no intention of changing it..

I have an old Renault Clio Mk2 2006 1,2 liter. Great car and a working car that just give it all. Its also my first car(25 years old) so there may be better cars in the future. However i just love this car. It drives around 16 kilometers on 1 liter.

If I had the money, I would certainly consider the Clio. Although the downsides you've mentioned may be enough to make me look at something else. Great sporty look though!

This Clio have many things "copied"? From the new Peugeot 208...the chrome details in the steering wheel, lions teeth in the head lights, etc...I would rather stick with the Renault Captur...

I was looking at this brand! I'm sorry if it's a silly question, I'm new to purchasing cars on my own, but I wanted to know if it's suitable for driving on dirt roads as well as city roads? And also, I keep seeing things about hybrid cars being "banned" in France soon, I don't entirely understand this, but I read that hybrids will become worthless because of this. Is this true?
