BBC scraps free TV licence for over 75s! (4k)

The blanket free TV licence for the over 75s will be dropped as of the 1st of August and be replaced by a means tested scheme.

As of August the first this year, the BBC will be increasing the number of people who fund it by about three million or more households.

That’s a minimum of an extra three million amounts of £157.50p, or £475,500,000 - every single year.

That’s just under half a billion quid extra per annum.

But at least it’s estimated that another 1.5 million of them will continue to get their licences for free, as long as one of the residents is over 75 and is on pension credits.
