That Pioneer plasma is sick
Ответитьwith the VHS revival coming... with alien romulus and terrifier 3 out on VHS. they NEED to revive DVHS as well this tech can co exist
ОтветитьIn 2002, our HD capable tv monitor was really, really big. In 2008, I noticed a firewire port. EDIT: It failed because the library had dvds.
ОтветитьLinus, why did you just say that Blu ray does 1080p instead of saying it does 4K? it definitely does 4k, and upscales anything under that to 4K.
ОтветитьYeah, I remember those, they were on the market for about five minutes.
ОтветитьWhen you said "Our dads" i cried 😢
ОтветитьI have a Panasonic TC-P50X2 just sitting around as I have nothing to use it with but constantly debate if its worth getting rid of. Hard to find such a versatile tv anymore.
ОтветитьImagine hd 🌽 video tapes 😂
Ответитьever wonder why they call it DVR, neither have I
Ответитьi think you must use component out better from composite
ОтветитьLaser Discs Man! don't forget about them
ОтветитьIf D-Theater/D-VHS has an actual digital stream, wouldn't it be possible to tap into the player and grab the raw data? Yes, it would still be encrypted but with today's methods, decrypting should be much less of an issue than back in the day, shouldn't it?
Ответитьi miss firewire
ОтветитьWe bought DVD because we can select chapters on the Showgirls movie.
ОтветитьI call BS. Everything looks incredible on plasma.
ОтветитьNo offense intended, but could you dial it back on the spastic God level nerd enthusiasm? I can only take so much squealing.
Regards
I want a collection of just linus' segways... i get tricked too many times how easily he sneaks them in.
ОтветитьMy uncle, who was single and known in the family for having the coolest stuff, had a setup like this with a monster of 60" TV that probably took 3-4 guys and a large dolly just to move.
We felt like we were at the movie theater for free.
why are you watching a 1080i video on a 768 resolution TV.....................
Ответитьyou made a mistake of watching VHS on a tv with much higher resolution - thats why the artefacts... if u plug in into old analog tv - it will look much smoother.
ОтветитьVHS is amazing
ОтветитьLinus is supposed to be a techy?
This is some basic knowing.
Oh man, I had zero idea HD VHS was even a thing!
ОтветитьThis is the crazy thing we're so far past that that I don't even remember my movies and t v looking this bad. I always remember your things being clear, but obviously not.
ОтветитьI spoke to my ex about this, and he was making out I was crazy. I knew I had these in my memory
Ответитьthe irony is that laserdisc was analog
also, we know what encoder was used...
bet 4k bluray look bettewr
ОтветитьDVD was 576p.. Well it was in PAL..
ОтветитьI miss vhs grew up on a old box tv and vhs player
Ответитьyou laugh, but this was way ahead of it's time at the time. TVs lagged so far behind in technology, HD-VHS didn't have a market.
ОтветитьYou forgot HD-DVD it was 1080i also.
ОтветитьMovie theaters failed on their quest to stop bootlegging. Miserably.
ОтветитьEven though the public only briefly used these, TV Stations used them for a long time. Digital VHS I remember it being called.
ОтветитьI still have my Panasonic 50 inch plasma from 2007. It's awsome!
ОтветитьVery poor description of analog records. They have grooves not bumps creating a more fluid representation
ОтветитьCan we say, that now we pay for HD Netflix and the blacks SUCK.
Just from the bottom of my heart, we ended up paying too much for less.
1080i on a tape somehow blows my mind more than digital UHD, 8K, etc.
ОтветитьIdk why there are so many pc companies and pcs but they’re so expensive
Ответитьwhat i don't get is that the 720 of the DVD was more than fine back then, but when I watch a 720 stream its just horribly painful, not to mention 420... - and also did bluray really catch on? I feel like it went from dvd directly to streaming cuz dvd was much cheaper?
ОтветитьI'm sitting here thinking I need a D-Theater setup now despite having a massive Plex server and more subscriptions than anyone else I know
ОтветитьI’d rather watch my horror movies on vhs.Halloween and nightmare on elm street is 10x better on vhs.Freddy in 4k looks weird lol
ОтветитьLinus, you had a TV in your bedroom that could play VHS cassettes. You were actually upper class buddy.
ОтветитьI kind of want this not gonna lie.😂.
ОтветитьImagine if they made this today with modern heads and tape formulation, it would give lto a run for it's money, considering these tapes hold half as much as lto1 which was out at the time, but was much cheaper
ОтветитьI put a bluray recording on a vhs and it was full HD
ОтветитьWhen I was working at an a/v store we had a showroom with one of these players. For the sound it was McIntosh amps and what not and Kef for the speakers with a Velodyne sub. I use to hang out in there all the time with the sales guys. It was the closest thing I've seen to a theater experience back then.
ОтветитьWe bought a Ps2 for gaming but rented a DVD to try it out when we were at our cabin. We felt like Chapter selection and subtitles and stuff was like magic. After that our VHS player was never used again..
Ответитьfact: we switched to DVD several years before anyone had a HDTV.
we didn't really think DVD looked that much better but saw the quality based on its "permanent digitally safe quality" as the improvement along with never having to rewind.
that said the the quality permanents made buying movies finally worth it.
which was a nice tradeoff to all the VHS copying we had built our smaller libraries of movies on.
(which because they were copied usually on slower speeds looked noticably poor)
these D-VHS look like it really would have made sense when compared on an HDTV but the fact is wasn't even a thing that was possible to witness so D-VHS in absolutely no way seemed as good of an improvement as DVD.)
(not to mention that we did also value DVD menus, chapter selection and extra features; even though those added bonuses were seen as just fancy unnecessary extra mostly)
