This is a fairly simple Mississippi hill country blues riff (think JJ Grey, James Mathus), as performed by Lightnin' Malcolm on the song by Cedric Burnside, which he wrote about his grandfather (who the song is titled for). Cedric plays the drums on it, and provides the singing as well.

Key of G. Malcolm plays it in open G tuning, I play it here in standard tuning (EADGBe). Humbucker pickups work best. You need some nice tube distortion, but finger each note softly. If you dig into it (which is hard not to do), it won't sound right. In the tab, if a note is in (parenthesis), it's a grace note, you don't have to play it:

D-5---(0)-5--0-3--(0)
A---------------------------3-3----1-----------------1s3-1
E---------------------------------------3----1-1-3
