Is the END OF SERIES Gotei 13 the WEAKEST Yet? | Bleach TYBW Discussion

Is the current Gotei 13 the weakest, even with a select few extremely powerful captains? Let me know your thoughts!

The only reason the current gotei 13 is so weak is because Yamamoto isn't part of it.

The current version is easily the strongest because Yamamoto and unahona was the 2 strongest and they are fodder compared to shunsui kenpachi byakua and Toshiro, renji and rukia is even comparable to unahona

Man theres even a new captain with sunglasses that I didnt even see in the thousand year blood war, i think its just me

I honestly always felt like kubo had favorite characters (renji,byakuya, kenpachi) from the start and stuck with them even when their character arc was technically over. He introduced the vizards as a plot device and pretty much accidentally made them cool and didn't seem to want or know what to do with them once the flashback was done. Even the weakest of them held their own against the strongest arrancars and they arguably had one of the most interesting dynamics with ichigo, where the existed in the limbo between all the worlds and had a more nuanced vision of the world than soul society.
And at the end they were just slapped on whatever needed filling, relegated to second knives yet again, didn't utilize their powers in any useful way. It also felt the same with pretty much all the vice captains except renji and rukia. they existed to justify an ensemble cast and make the main characters and the ones kubo liked best at first look stronger by comparison, when they had incredible premises.

If the only way to become captain was killing (or even just defeating ) the previous one, the quincys would have all died right after setting foot on sereitei soil.

The shinigsmi won mostly because Ywach killed every worthy opponent like Gerard and Hashwalt.
Had he not, Uryu and Jugram would still be doing that injury-pong while Gerard would have reached the size of Hueco Mundo xD

One thing came to my mind.Does Unohana even know about Shunsui's full power?If she said that she is strongest shinigami alongside Kenpachi that means she thinks she is stronger then Kyoraku😂

just like how the hell arc gives us wish fullment i feel like this is kubo chance to show us how strong the vizards are along side toshiro, soi fong, and byakuua as these characters has yet to wow the viewer since their debut fight excluding toshiro new bankai.

Should-Be Captains:

Hisagi - Squad 9 (Retire Kensei)

Renji - Squad 7 (Iba doesn't even have Bankai)

Ikkaku - Squad 3 (Always willing to fight, Bankai achieved, "broken" or otherwise)

Losing captains like yamato and ukitake is a big hit on gotei 13's ranks kenpachi was unleashed after unohana's death and between bankai zaraki and unohana I'd choose having full power zaraki instead, so her death wasn't really a problem, but losing yama and ukitake is a major downgrade of their overall power, ukitake is hinted to be equals with shunsui while yama doesn't need to be explained, then kensei and rose replaced great captains like gin and aizen. I'd imagine gotei thirteen with yama, yoruichi, gin, unohana, shunsui, byakuya, shinji, komamura, aizen, toshiro, zaraki, ukitake, urahara and mayuri as a vice captain would be a formidable group. Filled with captains that are battle hardened this roster would've done well if they were all present on the quincy's second invasion

Doesn't shinji use his bankia in in the tybw arc?

Iba, Isane and Lisa have done nothing notable in the whole series. Kensei and Rose aren't much better either, maybe they'd be strong if they actually used their Hollow powers.

Yeah but that generation still had Urahara.... If u ask me, even Aizen considered Urahara a threat, my opinion Urahara might be able to beat every other captain, he's like batman, with all the planning... He literally made Mayuri an ally to the soul society

Tbh the vizards (except shinji) and the new captain of the 4th division is just all trash

Still boggles my mind that Renji, Ikkaku and Yumichika aren’t captains as they all have Bankai and are very proficient at them, especially Ikkaku and Yumichika as they don’t just use them Willy nilly

When Ichigo actually dies should he then become an actual part of the gotei 13?

I still root for my girl Soi Fon working hard since the start to keep with some cheat teammates and facing the worst opponents she could get considering her abilities. She is a great captain and proved against Barragan and even Aizen, that she is smart and capable o. I am glad she is up-mid tier here I hope Kubo fix some stuff on her and give her more screentime and better fights. I want a Taijutsu fight with her or a fight such as Reigai Soi Fon vs Komamura.

Another thing is the first captains had no remorse they don’t hesitate atall to come up with some of the most unfair and disrespectful ways to fight as long as the opponent is dead. you get a sneak peak of what the captains could be capable of if they lost that aspect of them when toshiro is turned into a zombie he didn’t hesitate to kill and slashed down multiple people with deadly efficiency but then he had to fight mayuri with every invention he’s created for battle over the years that’s why he was so op

I honestly don't think the argument for Ukitake should be based around his reiatsu. Yammy supposedly had the highest amount of reiatsu of the espada but was he any kind of an asset to Aizen's force? Not at all, he was a joke

Kubo really fucked up with Vizored. The very idea is so OP to begin with. Even Aizen admits that hollofication is the next logical step. They had like 100 years to work on their powers but in the end they fail like chumps. We all saw how much of power up the mask is. Its insane. But during TYBW we don't see it. Like why didn't they used it ffs especially when its vs Quincy. Kubo hyped them up when they were first introduced but later we only see them used like fucking cannon fodder.

Imagine if during the 1st Era of Soul Society led by Yamamoto somehow EVERY soul reaper had Bankai from the more chaotic times demanding every person trained on a Vegeta level and even a rank in file soldier could match a captain of the modern age

Isane Kotetetsu has to be the weakest I feel. We don't even know if she has a Bankai (Tetsuzamon Iba we don'tknow either but I would assume he's stronger).

I dont think they are the weakest. cause if ability wise, RUKIA is the replacement of Yamamoto (the ice counterpart). Then there is hitsugaya (who by the way was able to use his power properly like how the story narrate should be his potential power). Also, I dont think the other captains are weak and cant accomplish anything during the war cause URAHA is the only person thats saves their asses when they cant win against the quincies. I'd say, its the most balance gotei 13 so far and the 1st generation of gotei are the MOST BAD ASS

I would agree with the assessment that the current is the most unproven Goetei 13, however I doubt that bit of circumstance is just that. With a possible Hell arc and the return of the original Goeti 13 being teased, it makes sense to have the most unproven take on the supposed strongest group. It's good story telling, and an even better chance to showcase both character growth, and the Goeti's development from being simply "murderous thugs" to the current state of fighting with more a purpose and a sense of duty, honor and how they see themselves as representatives of Soul Society. It's a big change, with alot of story telling to build up. Even originally in the show, the Goeti were blindly following orders regardless of their personal convictions, yet by the end everyone had their personal unique reasons to fight, and didn't require any authoritative central 46 to order them to do what needed doing, they were gonna do what they knew they needed to, even head captain Yamamoto. If anything, the constant them of the whole series is both character change, and that greater power isn't everything...I for one hope they do explore the idea of the current vs original Goeti as there is way too much potential in that to simply go to waist.

Tbh if The Wizards actually USED their hollow masks they would probably put up way more of a fight against everyone they thought (maybe even win)

New gote 13 is not weak there is royal palace training byakuya,renji,rukia and ichigo. Zaraki reach her shikai and bankai. Toshiro achieve new level bankai. Hisagi learn her bankai. Other captains good against hollows and arrancars they strong too as a captain but captain level is not the highest level in soul socity. And orihime chad training too and they stronger already. the Quincys were the most stronger villains and they "all" died the new generation espada cant beat gote 13. Remember Yami was the strongest espada and kenpachi beat him without shikai form. Now kenpachi has a shikai and bankai if he activated her bankai can alone defeat the all espada and no has anychanche the whole espada can defeat zarai bankai and ichigo is soul king level... Soul socety will safe thousand or million years after they defeat Quincys and the quincy kind is dead,Aizen too dead.

This Gotei has a massive power difference between it's ranks however it isn't too drastically weaker than the previous Gotei, yes it is weaker but assumedly not by much.
The 6th division is in its strongest iteration, with byakuya and renji being absolute monsters. Mayuri comes out better, Kenpachi becomes an absolute monster who overpowered unohana and killed her once he realized his strength and wasn't subconsciously holding back.
The Vizoreds are definitely not as strong as the prior spot holders that they fill but it isn't that bad.
There is just an insane gap in power between the top captains and the lower captains.
The new Gotei isn't weak, it's just very very imbalanced

Im just going to argue that Kenpachi Azachiro managed to fight off the entirety of the Gotei 13 of his own time and Kenpachi Zaraki pre TYBW managed to defeat him singlehandedly. That would suggest to me that the Gotei 13 of that time were probably weaker than the post war Gotei.

Nah this version of the gotei 13 is definitely not the weakest, Zaraki by himself easily replaces the loss of Yamamoto. As a matter of fact he’s stronger, Zaraki in the CFYOW novel is said to be on par with true bankai ichigo.

Yes. Not to knock on the current Gotei but the Original Gotei were far superior. If Old Man Yama, Unohana was around with Shunsui at 8th + the current ones, it’d rival the best ever but without those two and Iba, Lisa and Isane makes the quality drop that much lower

Kira tho is top tier with a broken shikai

Kyoraku+kenpachi+hitsugaya+byakuya = 99% power gotei 13.

i hope future stuff doesnt focus too much on teh younger generation and new recruits that look immature? i just want more development on our mature characters. people with depth and maturity. teh serious solemn vibes and stuff-

I was really hoping to see renji and ikakku step up and be captains.

The vast majority of the gotei 13's firepower being with the captains make sense, but not in a good way. It just goes to show how weak the 13 squads really are (as proven by literally every single invasion we've ever witnessed). From a military standpoint, if your last line of defense is always the first into battle or is quickly relied upon because your conventional forces got destroyed, then your military organization overall is a failure.

Aizen also said that each squad is supposed to be able to stand as it's own military power. But if the only members that are worth a damn in that entire squad is the captain and the lieutenant, that's extremely bad. It's like playing a game a chess but your best pieces replace the pawns.

Why didn't they bring back Isshin? Cant have too many powerful people

I think it’d be fair to include ichigo in the modern day Gotei which I think brings them up several levels

Some of the captains might not be on the level of the ones we got at the start of the series but instead we got some powerhouses for VC. Renji, Hisagi, Kira, Ikakku and even Nanao all came into their own and could be considered Captain level (maybe not Nanao).
