I have a different disability, and use a service dog, and encounter all sorts of intrusive people telling me what I can and can't do, and what they can and can't do, and I definitely go for nice first. Then I whip out the copy of the state law about assaulting disabled people, and that messing with the dog is considered assault. I literally carry copies. When that doesn't work and the manager gets involved they also get a copy, but at that point I just want to get my groceries or whatever and then I say, "Are you calling the cops on me or am I calling the cops on you? Because I don't just call the cops, I also call the local news and you just might become famous for assaulting a disabled woman and her dog just trying to get groceries done before I collapse." What ever happened to good manners?

If somebody yells at you then respond in the same manner that he or she just did. Speak louder and with the same energy level such person used to speak to you. The idea is to act as a mirror reflecting the attitude of said person. The alternative is to ignore the person, say nothing, and just mind your own business. A strong defense is better but a tactical retreat is much better. Use common sense in every situation and uses enough force as long as it reasonable and neccessary.
