Who ever left the platform not load into the trailer may cause many accidents of the forklift wheel actually falling into that gap.
There should be a little part which is not on the level there, but, allows you to drive a full path into the truck.

Any holes, even 2 inches or 1 inch can get a heavy load stuck in there, easily.
It would jump the forks by that length, even at slow speed.

Anything longer, like 1 feet is a sure problem to solve, which is more complicated.
