I like the version of Bowser being described here, which really shows how bowser was more of a villain back in the day, between the Mario Show, him having magic abilities in the manual of the first game, and to really just emphasize why he was so hated in the first place

Peach is lost to the pink forest, Yoshi is nowhere to be found. The only person Mario has left turned against him because of his jealousy. Mario now must face off against the charred remains of what was once his brother.

I like the lyrics adding to the feeling that they're not brothers at this point. It makes it sadder.

Me being a smarty (Mario) and my brother trying to be the bigger brother (Luigi) in an argument in a nutshell.

This is actually true, Mario is a animal/family abuser and Luigi is always in his shadow and Luigi had enough.

If you think about it Mario isn't the one to blame here. He was suddenly attacked by Luigi but accidentally pushed him into the Lava while defending himself. Mario never intended to kill Luigi.

In fact there is even a version where after Mario defeats Luigi, he falls through the bridge and end up falling into the lava, further proving Mario had never meant to kill his own brother.

When Luigi said I HATE YOU I HATE YOU SO MUCH it felt like he didn’t mean it it felt like he was sad that HIS brother said I hate you and probably regret his actions

It looks like Luigi has won the fight so Luigi got his revenge but is somehow still angry..

By the look of Mario's face I can tell that Mario is depressed..

So Luigi has lava running through his skull and here’s why. Luigi struck a deal with Bowser and basically worked for him, thus because of the phrase ‘You thought Koopa had worked alone?’ Mario then makes his way to Bowser’s castle where he meets Luigi. Luigi wanted to be in the spotlight, yet…suffering nearly a tragic death, Mario accidentally pushes Luigi into lava…Filled with hatred and lava running right through his skull, Luigi says it’s all Mario’s fault. Now I can see two sides to this. A) Mario is in the right and Luigi needs to not take his hatred out on him or B) Luigi needs Mario to witness what Luigi had to go through when he fell in the lava. Seems like their brotherhood is really dead, because if you think about it, It’s really Luigi’s fault for A) Devising a plan to kill Mario so Luigi could get all the fame, which is proved by the phrases ‘You devised a plan to murder your own blood’, ‘My plan was great’, ‘It was flawless’. B) BETRAYING HIS OWN BROTHER, C) Blaming Mario for something that wasn’t his fault proved by the phrases ‘Denial, how quaint, A redone song and dance MURDERER’ (except the pushing Luigi into Lava part), D) Striking a deal with Mario’s rival/ greatest enemy just to get the spotlight all for himself, and E) Refusing to be Mario’s sidekick and hating him in general. This is proved by the phrase ‘I could’ve been my own Shining Star’ and ‘So I struck a deal with Bowser, He promised your death’ as well as ‘No longer will I be your sidekick!’ 10/10 lyrics

Edit #1: Mario even SAYS it’s all Luigi’s fault —> ‘It is your fault.” Basically, what Mario is saying about Luigi is true and he (Luigi) needs to clear his mind of these malicious thoughts —> ‘His (Bowser’s) influence has tinted your mind’, ‘I am not spiteful!’ / ‘I know you’re not spiteful!’, ‘You forced me to kill my bro!’, ‘You brought this all on yourself’. And what really makes me like this is that Mario is sad to come to terms with the fact that this version of Luigi IS NOT his brother. Then in the second half of the song’s beginning, he almost doesn’t recognize Luigi, pretending he’s just another person out on the street. Then in the song’s ending, he calls THIS VERSION OF HIS BROTHER, a demon of his (Mario’s) past. Ever since Luigi started working for Bowser, Mario feels betrayed yet wants to give his own brother another chance…but Luigi wants it all for himself. Sure he got his chance in Luigi Bros Wii U, but the rest ALL started with his own brother’s (Mario’s) name on the title of the games. So now, Luigi feels jealous and wants to be in the spotlight and wants to commit a role reversal. Even though Luigi GOT his chance, Mario still outshined Luigi with ease. And that’s what also lead to this…Luigi confronting his own brother for: revenge, his own chance in the spotlight, and possibly even killing Mario.
