GTX 1080 vs RTX 3050 - Old High-End Vs Modern Entry-Level

I currently have the rtx 3050. It can't do one thing it's designed for which is 1080p ultra or high gaming with 100fps. Just don't buy it. I don't even know why nvidia made such thing.this is also not a good budget card, I'll definitely upgrade later down the line

I intend to get the RTX 3050 for 4k 120Hz on the cheap. I wonder which useful applications actually can run at 4k 120Hz outside Windows desktop?

I have a GTX 1080, and I love it. It’s impressive what it can do, even being 7 years old. Good to see it can even hold its own still, but goes to show how much more power efficient and powerful modern cards are getting. Thanks for the video!

You should totally review one of the Dell 30 series GPUs. The Dell 3070 and 3080 really arnt as bad as one would assume. They actually have some decent cooling and stopped using the blower style fans like they did with the 1070s/1080s.
I'd go as far as to recommend a Dell 30 series to anyone looking for a budget GPU that's less than a few years ald.

Now i know the RTX4060 has been poo'ed on, but i replaced my GTX1080 with one and have been very surprised with just how good it is in my 10 year old system, very surprised indeed, and that drop from 190 watts power draw of the 1080 compared to the 105 watts of the 4060 was indeed bery nice for my lekky bill.

The 1080 was the biggest most wonderful mistake Nvidia ever made, I didn't need a new video card from 2017 until the beginning of 2023 when she finally went belly up, rip 1080..... 😢

Its crazy how the 1080 is already old high end.. man feels like only yesterday I was dying to cope myself an MSI GTX 1080 card, now I own it and still runs all my games perfectly fine on 1080p but damn time really flew

picked a 3050 up for $70 and honestly never going to get rid of this thing. going to use and abuse it and keep it around until it dies.

the big difference seems to be in the temperature. the 3050 is a lot cooler

Since the 2060 is stronger than the 3050 and and was the cheapest card of that generation that means "entry level cards" were equivalent to the high-end one literary just the next generation lol

there isnt much diffrence, and it blows my mind that and old card is basiclly the same as new ones and we have to pay stupid prices for new ones

I'm still using a std 1080gtx strix, the current cards are hecticaly overpriced still.

And people says that nvidia doesn't kill performance on their own gpu line, 1660 ti was released with the same power as the 1070, 1080 was way ahead, now on your same video the 1660 ti has the same performance than the 3050, poor 1080 losing so much performance via driver degradation.

whilst the 1080 looks good in this comparison, it's not as good as it seems in some cases. I rarely play games on high graphics settings (I grew up with a much weaker pc so I'm used to low graphics) and some games still drop below 30 fps like Starship troopers extermination or monster Hunter world or heck older games like Mabinogi in crowded places

do not get a radeon card, got a 6700xt and it has been my biggest regret

So conclusion buy a used 1080ti but if buying new buy a rx6650xt I bought one for my old i7 10700k , and cost less than 3050 , latest 50% faster

Why gtx 1080 on video only consume power around 130-150w,or maybe because oem version with low power limit. Zotac gtx 1080 amp consume power around 180-220w show from msi afterburner and only around 70-75 c max temps

As consoles have 5-6 years of lifespan, it seems 1080 did hold up really well for its term.

A quick look at techpowerup's "Relative Performance" is enough to anticipate the answer.

Happy with my gtx 1080, no need to upgrade now. Playing new games in 2k just fine. Rtx 3050 with ray tracing, whats the point if games get 5fps. Looks nice as extra feature on the box, marketing.... The only point of buying rtx 3050 person i see if you making not a gaming machine and want to relive cpu graphic, then from ebay used cheaper

The 1000 series was one of the best series of cards Nvidia released.
Great balance of processing power, power consumption, size and price.
Still using a 1060.

I'd always prefer the legendary 30w 1030 for budget builds and casual gaming. I'm curious about how would a 30w newest architecture GPU perform. No doubt Pascal is one of the best ever lines launched by Nvidia.
