BRUTALLY HONEST | San Francisco to Tokyo in ECONOMY aboard UNITED's Boeing 787-9!

I am here because I will take the same UA 787 flight from Newark to Narita this July. By watching at the meals served I have the basic idea of how good(bad) that is (better if they serve hamburger, noodles are not their specialty). By the way the best meals I can recall were from JAL/ANA/Korean Air, and some other Asian airlines.

Talking about food on flights, most USA Airlines offer the same standard amenities on Long Haul flights so the food can really be the make or break difference in which airline you choose. Also, a tasty meal is a great way to make the passengers more friendly and relax some tension and nerves for nervous flyers.

Actually the meal choice makes sense. Your mind believes it's dinner time, it's lunch time in Japan, so you naturally serve breakfast.

worst meal in 2021 qatar airways dfw to doh in economy class. All the food was catered to Indian customers without any consideration of western meal alternative. I would have killed to eat the meals you had on that united flight. I went without eating over 14 hours.

My worst meal was with SQ SINGAPORE AIRLINES THEIR FISH AND MASHED POTATO WITH NO GRAVY

I flew in United's EWR-IGI Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight three weeks back from the date I am posting the comment. I had chosen 57B seat and thankfully 57C seat remained empty hence I could spread myself a bit. The flight took 14 hours and somehow went well however food was absolutely terrible especially vegetarian food which I had booked because of my dietary preference. I purchased Wifi for 22 USD so i was able to surf internet on flight. The crew I found was not so friendly.

flew United from SFO to Tokyo-Narita round trip just 2 weeks ago. Terrible flights. Terrible food, surly flight attendants (on what should be a premium international route). Code share flight with ANA. Why would a Japanese airline code share with a US airline when their standards of service are far apart? I'll fly exclusively asian airlines from now on. US airlines are shite.

Haha! My worst meals have been on United going from Newark to Dublin. It was turkey loaf. Dry and flavorless. The other was recently on Fiji Airways. one four flights (LAX-NAN, NAN-SYD, MEL-NAN and NAN-LAX The only edible item was a caramel brownie served with one meal. The portions were small, lacked any flavor, and looked awful. We still ate them because that's all there was to eat.

Fried rice or eggs on a Northwest Airlines flight from JFK to NRT in 2000 was the worst!

I’d be starving on that flight. Hated the salad, hate pasta. I think in future I’ll buy a sandwich and take it on the flight.

My worst flight meal was last year on American’s 777-300ER from DFW-LHR. The food was so dry, and the sides were inedible. Definitely do not want to have that same experience going to Europe again in a few weeks

My meal from IAH to London for dinner was pretty good. I had the pasta and my daughter had chicken. Now breakfast was something else. It was yogurt and a biscuit. I don’t eat yogurt and the biscuits had nuts and my daughter has nut allergies. So we skipped breakfast and just drank are juice.

I guess these seats are bad for long haul flights. I took a United 787-8 for a short 1 hour 30 minutes hub transfer flight and the seat was generous and very comfortable

To be honest, I never expect the food on economy flights to be good & I usually just eat the extra bits & pieces eg the snack pretzels, bread roll & dessert. I try to eat something I enjoy before the flight & I also bring some snacks onboard in case I get hungry.

How are US airlines still alive on Pacific routes. I recently flown ANA to Narita and then Eva Air from Narita to Taipei. Now I’m not too exciting of fly United back

United and the other American carriers are happy being mediocre. They've carved out a non competitive market for themselves . They don't step on each others toes.

I am flying with United for the first time in November, London to Houston, if the food is like that, I might bring some of my own, or just have a big meal before boarding, and wait until I get to the hotel for my evening meal, at least the entertainment looks good, and seats comfy enough. I always bring my own pillow for longer flights.

To each his own. I love the catering on United especially on their Asia flights. And FYi, you are supposed to stir the noodles with the sauce. As for breakfast, makes perfect sense to serve it prior to noon, because prior to noon that IS the appropriate time for breakfast. I always opt for United's waffles, which are great. So, let me be brutally honest about your review. Thumbs down!

Hi David, my wife and I really enjoy your videos. We just discovered your channel recently. We will be flying American Airlines Boeing, 787–8 between Dallas Fort Worth and Amsterdam in August 2023. Have you ever flown this route and what type of experience would you expect? We will be flying business class.

I will never fly 10 abreast economy on a 777 or 9 abreast economy on a 787 again. Always pay for at least premium economy or business class. Or use JAL / Delta which have less dense cabins

You were lucky, wife and I flew an 8hr round trip UA light from Denver to Kona, Hawaii and both times we were served cold entrées, cold piece of baked chicken on cold quinoa, and the other choice a vegetarian entree, cold pasta with cheese, served straight out of the fridge. A kid who sat in the window seat looked at his meal, took the cookie and shoved the rest, tray and all, under the front seat. That said it all. Thanks for the review and I will check out other airlines for International flights.

Don’t like United if I fly from Lax to narita I always took ANA and JAL

United's current catering is a disaster. I've had inedible meals multiple times in domestic first class and international business. It's causing me to book away from United. My worst meal on a flight was definitely on United in first class, and it was in the last 6 months.

Just be glad you got hot meal service at all. Three weeks ago I flew round trip from SFO to Cancun on a United 737 Max 9. It was a 5 1/2+ hour flight and there was no meal service at all and only one beverage service! The "snack" was one half dollar size chocolate coated rice cracker. If you walked down to the galley, the flight attendant would sell you a boxed meal of crackers, cheese and hummus. Of course, there was no announcement that this was even available. The return flight was on "International Flight Attendants Day" but the crew couldn't have been less friendly. On the beverage service we go two small bottles of wine and had to call back the flight attendant to ask for glasses to drink them from. She looked at us like we were from Mars. I guess she thought we should drink straight from the bottle. The pilot turned on the seat belt sign during a few minutes of light turbulence then, I guess he forgot to turn it off as it stayed on for the next several hours. I was also surprised there was no infotainment screens on such a new aircraft. Only a little bracket where you could mount your own screen device. A truly horrible experience all around...

For the price you paid for this ticket, the value and food quality is about right. This same seat for 3x or 4x the price would warrant the snark 😂

I used to fly UA to Tokyo as well. I can confirm that the food and on-flight service were horrible.

Oh boy, Air Canada economy transatlantic, first meal was just gross, return trip meal was way too bland, but suprisingly, the worst I've expirenced was on Singapore Airlines from Singapore to Incheon, apperatly it isnt just me that got sick, everyone else did as well.

Do not dream luxuriouse service for low cost ticket. Flight with business class than you get what you expecting.
