This is the fairytale - and truly, it's a fairytale, it shldn't be taken as real - of this story: Big is tall, dark and handsome, rich, unattainable, sort of a snob, is the sort of guy in NYC that can have any woman he wants (and did, with Natasha - younger than him, beautiful, almost a model, aristocratic, well-bred.)

The "fairy tale" twist is that after *all that*, after years of hesitating & acting cool, he wants Carrie instead. She is neurotic and attractive - even beautiful, but not like Natasha, not your standard impossible trophy wife - but very flawed. More down to earth. Hell, he's worth millions of dollars and jetsets to Paris for work, where she writes a column and lacks the liquidity to put a down payment in for her apartment - blows through her paychecks basic life expenses of someone into fashion. In part of all the fun she has with her friends...she just lives a much smaller life than he does.

What's the fable? In spite of the fact he could have a 25 year old actress at the drop of a hat (just like he did on this show, when Carrie was with Aidan)...he finally wakes up and realizes he wants Carrie. She loves him so much, they have the same sense of humor, they have history, they have chemistry.

Every woman wants to believe her love for a man will finally change him and be requited. THAT'S the fairy tale. We all know in real life....if you chase that for the wrong man, you'll wake up at 45 humiliated and broken-hearted (the unspoken fear Carrie articulates when she fights with Miranda).

I don't fault them for ending this show as it did but it really is the sort of outcome that would only bear out in cinema. It's even funnier when you realize who Big was based off of - Ron Galotti, who was SO unattractive and still ended up marrying a Swedish model (and then divorcing her). Or something.

Class, education, and money are the big elephants in the room on this show too.

god i hate how they try and make the Russian seem like a bad guy. He was nothing but forthcoming with Carrie from the beginning. He was such an effective communicater, he told her EXACTLY what he wanted and what his expectations were. Even the slap was an accident but somehow the viewer is meant to think of him as a horrible person, all to shoehorn Big in at the last moment 🙄. Men like the Russian are so rare, someone who knows what he wants and is willing to live accordingly. terrible ending

All these years I haven't figured out how SJ Parker could pass as a sexy or good looking woman or even cute ... it makes sense big couldn't decide on her

I saw this episode when I was 19 and it made me stay single until now😂

Watching again and still love it. I love that he flew across the ocean for her and was really gonna beat up Aleks. Big was her one. Aiden was a wonderful guy, but they didn't fit together, he wanted kids in the suburbs and Carrie wasn't that at all.

so sad they write him of in the next show.

Imagine you just moved to a foreign country with the wrong man and then you see the love of your life walk through the door to save you from it all. Despite all their toxic moments, Big and Carrie had the most amazing chemistry of all.

This is why reboots are a bad idea. They ruined a perfect ending!
