Where can I find this switch in this price 110 $ ?
ОтветитьAlso Multimode fiber is outdated and noone uses it. You ALWAYS use singlemode even if you do 0.5 meter patch!!! only noobs use multimode fiber these days.
ОтветитьAlso you can just recode the brand if you want. No big deal.
ОтветитьIt's not called a D.A.C. cable, it's called a DAC-cable.
ОтветитьAA i see you have the issue i'm facing. two PC's. same CPU on both, only difference really is the motherboards. Strix x570-F vs Gigabyte Aorus x570 Gaming
one pc running 4x10TB Ironwolf Nas drives in Raid 0, the other 4x8TB and 2x6TB Iron Wolf Nas drives. both PC's running OWC Softraid Raid 0 for now, soon to be upgrading the 4x10TB to 8x10TB Raid 10
2x Aquantia AC107 10gbe pcie cards connecting them. One way i get about 9.6gb, the other it maxes out at 6. Overall write speed average are about 600MB, with bursts up 950MB.
Static IP's set for the card on both
Iperf results indicate atbout 9.5gb one way and 7ish the other.
Tried all sorts of troubleshooting and short of the Raid on the slower side has gone funky as it was moved from one pc to another. Will see when i'm finished backing up and can set up the 8x10TB Raid
Monoprice tends to have these cables/connectors for cheap cheap cheap.
ОтветитьGreat video and explanation. What if my house only wired the cat6 between two floors? Then, the solution can only be the sfp+ to rj45 adaptor, correct?
ОтветитьThanks. I have a question that i having hard time to find.
I have an old computer with ipfire installed. I have 500/500 mbit/s fiber.
But i am curious how good cpu i need to have to use 10gbit/s.
Now i have a very old intel core2duo @ 1,86 ghz cpu thats works greate.
It is an old DELL optiplex 745 tower.
Cpu: Intel Core2Duo E6300 1,86 ghz
RAM. : 4gb ddr2
HDd: 80 gb (yes. HDD. not an SSD).
2 x 1gbit/s network cards.
2023 $156 :( for that switch
Ответитьpower consumption?
Ответитьnot to nick pick... but you are incorrect about cat 5e. solid core cable can do 10G over cat 5e up to 30m. and braided up to 10ft.
ОтветитьYou can get 10Gbe over cat5e, for a short distance. Like downstairs to upstairs. If you tried you will find out
ОтветитьSwitch is now 205 usd
ОтветитьI'd probably use mono mode duplex fiber optic, it's a better system, and also it's way more scalable, future proof... After all you want to do the wiring once and that's it.
ОтветитьI DON'T understand one thing how did you connect pc network card(as it is rj45 connector) with fiber optic cable
Ответитьfunny how this is more expensive now at $206.98
ОтветитьAny chance of an update on this that has more ports (8-10-12)? Or something similar. Lot of misinformation out there.
Ответитьi hope you've gotten a faster nvme by now
ОтветитьHello. Where I live there are two types of LC-LC multi mode OM3 duplex cables. 3mm and 2mm which one should I get? Thank you.
ОтветитьCorrections on DAC, there are ACTIVE and PASSIVE DAC cables, active cables have a transceiver chip in each end and thus compatibility with the cable matters, PASSIVE DAC is a dumb cable, the HOST devices on each end will see each other directly and NEED to be compatible with each other. Active DAC cables are important for longer runs where short DAC are fine for short runs.
ОтветитьAll I want is a manages 4x2.5 Gbps PoE+ switch with a 10gbps port (to connect my main server to it and be able to feed all the 2.5Gbps ports at max speed simultaneously) that does not cost an arm and a leg.
ОтветитьAnd today the router just cost 290CAD.
ОтветитьEvery content creators that say "AFFORDABLE" must really be drunk
ОтветитьAmazing how all this old tech has increased in cost over time rather than decreased with adoption. I just decided I wanted to try 10G and after seeing a few review videos quoting prices from 2-3 years ago microTIKS me off! Granted right now the globe is dealing with high inflation and companies are constantly making "supply chain" excuses. But the prices have become ridiculous. That switch is going for $180 now and those $23 cards... those are now $50 to $110 each.
Ответить@craft Does this solution work with a nas? If so how can I do so?
ОтветитьIt has to have VLAN & QOS and not be L3 and I'd probably prefer 6-8 ports while still being nominally fanless. And absolutely SFP+. 10GBE copper is a power vampire with more latency.
P.S. As much as I love POE in concept, hybrid multimode fiber cable (fiber and copper combined) is a thing and I would argue simpler, more capable and more resilient.
BTW for home deployments RJ45 10gb Base-T works fine over good cat5e.
Before running fiber I just said 'why not' and gave it a try and iperf showed full 10gb.
If you're going like 50meters definitely will need 6A but if you've already got good cat5e in the wall it.... Probably will be plenty fine
Another big reason to not to 10GigBaseT SFP+'s is they draw extra power and some devices simply don't support them.
Ответитьmentioning lunus degrades your videos. why should we even stay here
ОтветитьNot sure what you guys doing in the US, but in Europe a Cat6EA cable runs at 100m with 10gbit. This is an international standard. Cat 8 is senseless crap (no RJ45 anymore). It's so easy: if you need more than 10 Gbit, then use Fiber...
ОтветитьDo not be jealous of anybody's work...It is a lesson to you..😆😆😆
ОтветитьInteresting. Australian prices for this device ar roughly $200 - $300 range. USA price would amount to at least 50-75% discount before anyone looks at them.
ОтветитьGreat video
ОтветитьNo setting up ip if they have a router connected in the network which most likely 1gb for home network. They could also setup dhcp on the server which is connected by a 10gb. Internet access will still be the same speed of the router.
ОтветитьThis guy is clearly testosterone deficient.
Ответитьi love your intro
ОтветитьYes of course the proble is the f... money for pci-e cards i have 4 switches diferent brands bat, no card copatible😪😪😪
ОтветитьWhere do i plug my router in this switch?
ОтветитьCan we have an update on 2022 about this topic?
ОтветитьEdited... Mostly stuff that went over the top of my head, but, great video Jeff.
ОтветитьHow would you use this switch and still have my eero 6 pro WiFi running? I’m trying to get my computer the full speed of my fiber internet on my computer and phones just on WiFi while home.
ОтветитьWait a second...poe AND 2 DC ins? Is this thing capable of double redundancy power?
ОтветитьI've just ordered one a few minutes ago. After slowly building up my Network (or rather making parts of it 10G capable) by adding a 10G card to my NAS, getting a 2,5G adapter for my Macbook (still plenty fast and very cheap) and connecting it to the rest of the Network via a MikroTik switch with SFP+, I've also ordered a Mac Studio and that has 10GbE as standard. Now I might need an NVMe Cache in the NAS though. Surprisingly, the NICs for SFP+ are quite expensive, too - about 55€ each and I needed three.
ОтветитьNote: Single-mode fiber (SMF) might pay if you're using cables longer than 10m.
This may depend on your location. I'm in Europe and SMF SFP+ are more expensive than the MMF SFP+, however OM2..OM5 are expensive when they get above 10m. Since I need four 30m and one 20m at my place, I've picked SMF.
Not bad. I prefer D-Link DGS-1510-20, though. You can trunk 8x1Gbit and then get dual 2x10Gbit and 8Gbit between switches.
Now I also have a DXS-1210-12SC (bought second hand at 40% of the retail price, but unused - simply couldn't resist).
That’s awesome information! Thank you sir!
