How to Boot HP Laptop from USB Drive on Windows 10

When you're locked out of a computer because you forgot a login password, or got the problem to start your computer, you may need to start the computer from a recovery USB drive to unlock the computer or reinstall the system. Simply connect the USB drive to the password-protected HP laptop and then set the laptop to boot from the USB drive as the tutorial shows.

If the computer does not boot from a bootable USB drive, you can change the computer boot order, which is the order of devices listed in BIOS where the computer looks for startup information. You can change the selection for an optical drive or a USB flash drive.

To change the boot order:

1. Insert the bootable media you created.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Press and hold ESC key while the computer is restarting, and then press F9 for boot options.
4. Select the optical drive or USB flash drive you want to boot from.
