This has been super helpful. I felt like I was just finding things and organizing it without a good understanding of what the actual purpose of. I'd looked at different resources, but when you explained it's not what the researcher knows, but the scientific body of knowledge, it clicked. I also LOVED your laptop analogy. Didn't feel like it was that easy because this is academia we're talking about here... nothing is easy in academia! Not that I am a cheater, but I ordered an essay few times. First, I had used some so-called UK website, but the support guy was Indian, and judging by the way the paper was written, the writer was not a professional for sure. So I tried a European website

I started a Marriage and Family Therapy Masters program two years ago. I was coming from a completely different field and had no idea what a lit review was and completely bombed on my first try. I scoured the internet looking for wisdom, and this was the video that made everything clear.

I'm writing this reply two years later because I've been asked "What would you tell incoming students to the program that you wish you have been told." And my answer is, '"I wish I'd been told to watch this video."

By the way, the the analogy about writing the report about laptops was the thing that complexly unlocked the concept of lit reviews.
