So just clarify, use atx 3.0 cable (if available with psu) instead of adapter ?

Damn I cannot believe we have to teach people to plug cables all the way in and double check your connection. What next? Do not build PC with wet hands? Common sense not so common afterall lol. IMO if that causes fire it is on the user for being dumbass.

Another good tip is if you're going to use an L-shaped adapter, don't forget to check what WATTAGE RATING it's for. As far as I've seen on the market, there are TWO VERSIONS for these 12vhpwr 90 degree adapters. One is rated for 450w. The other is rated for 600w. Check to make sure your 4090 model is not one of those that go above 450w out of factory (e.g. the Strix, or the Gigabyte Gaming OC) if you plan on using the 450w rated adapter. The materials for the 450w adapters are probably only able to handle the low tier 4090s at best. There is a 4090 tier list here on YT that has all models of the 4090 listed with their power ratings on a chart.

I just picked up a new Asus 4080 strix (Non-OC) and now I'm lost on how to connect those 90* adapters or the power for that matter.

Since they usually have the 2 or 3 8-pin PCI-e plugs but they all state that you shouldn't plug the adapter cable directly into the PSU.

So maybe just use a 90* adapter and 2 or 3 8-pin PCI-e plugs that come with your PSU?

Also, is it ok to use your PSU's PCI-e plugs that have the 6+2 thingy to plug into the 3 way 8-pin power adapter?

Thanks for the video!

But for now switch to AMD like most ppl are because there 7000 cards are actually usable and really good.

As an engineer, I can tell you that high current, even across low resistance connections, AMPLIFIES the current draw and even small resistances in the connections create large voltage drops, which generate heat. Minifit Jr connectors (the larger PCI-8 connectors) are pretty good at distributing current flow evenly, but the smaller connector on board the RTX 4070 is a Microfit Jr connector. These pins are smaller and cannot handle the load as well. These companies are cheating themselves by reducing the connector size. Three PCI-8 connectors (8 x 3) are SUPERIOR to the 24 pins (12 for power, 12 for ground) on the GPU card. Therefore, making use out of ALL of the pins on the GPU connector is critical for load sharing.
Now for the boring math stuff; A RTX 4070 ti (reportedly) draws 300W. At 12V input, that's 25AMPS (300W / 12V = 25A). With 12 pins for power on the GPU (25A / 12 pins = 2A), that's 2 AMPS PER PIN! This is ballpark, because I dunno what the PCIe-x16 connector itself draws or can handle as far as wattage.

I bought a pre-built customised computer, and the cable goes with a pretty nasty bend OVER the graphics card. The company I bought it from has been in business for decades, and been doing high end gaming setups for at least 15 years at this point as well. They give 5 year warranty on their entire system, so they are confident in what they sell. I've had 3 PCs in 15 years at this point, and they all still run to this day. Now this still spooks me out but I doubt asking them about it would result in anything other than "nah we do it well dw".

Your video really helped me a lot. My nvidia adapter was doing a curve in my o11 evo and I decided to change the psu. Do you think 850w is enough for a rtx 4090 and r9 5950x? Cheers from Brazil

i have the 011 dynamic evo, with the 4090 fe. and with cablemod custom cables the cables do not fit properly. its sad that i had to change my case just to get the look i wanted. NVIDIA really needs to rethink this garbage connector or slightly slim down the damn cooler. its sad they think this was really needed. PROPS to AMD. I was sent a 7900xtx from AMD and i am seriously considering just switching it out, i mean hell it beats the 4080 and using the 5800x3d the 7900xtx is paired much better at 4k then the 4090, the 4090 is bottlenecked in alot of games i play. and the 7900xtx gets great fps in 4k, as far as RT you really dont need at all, i still dont use RT in any game it really makes no difference, especially if you use a high panel and its properly color calibrated, and until RT is in all games period and properly optimized its really still just a gimmick. i know in the past ive given Robey some shit but this is great info and great recommendations for consumers. GREAT job from robeytech, oh and Mr tech jesus with the hair steve from GN.

Nah bro, better send the burnt gpu back to the seller and get full refund. Now THAT will make nvidia give you a better connector. This gpu costs so much money I don't need to spend another 20 on a cable. No thanks.

If the cable is plugged in all the way in the connector you can bend it like you want. The cable does not care how tight you bend it. I have done brutal things with 8 pin cables for older GPUs and never had a problem. The key is to bend the cable first in the shape you want and then plug it in.

planned obsolescence, because the previous entrance was more durable. But this one is causing problems and besides the connection the card will become unusable and a new one will have to be bought.
