Once they added in steam vents, a fully "sustainable" base became an option. Sadly a large base population is out of reach now because there is only 1-2 steam vents, so good luck getting over 30 people without running out of oxygen.

Going low tech is pretty easy. The hot biomes are full of algal deposits and coal, ... I mostly have no issues just using coal generators with a few hatches on hand, feeding them clay from deodorizers, etc. I would recommend fewer dupes for the first 60 cycles or so. I usually grab the ones with high learning since they level faster.

you could put a water drip underneath your exhaust vents and keep all of your waste carbon dioxide inside of a single room. that way you wouldnt waste water for those carbondioxide scrubbers.

I personally use the polluted water drip from my natural gas generators, and divert them to the exhaust vents so the carbondioxide they produce just stays in the room theyre in.
