As a default I tight mark, high press and force onto weak foot the opposition CAM if they have one, generally the most creative player on their team and if I force him to make less than optimal passes (sideways is better than a clean through ball) and just tend to bully people to playing in front of Badiashile and Big Yerry Mina as I'm Everton

My go to is to close down the wingers. Force wingers and full backs on to weaker foot and then whatever the assistant manager recommends. He ALWAYS wants to tackle hard on everybody. To the point that my press conferences go like this. Go from youre passibg style is great to then but your tackling is a little but rough and none of the other managers like you..... well ill just go cry with my champs league, prem league and FA cup treble

I don't see any reason not to close down every opponent and tight mark every AM and ST. It won't bring any special amounts of yellow or red cards to my players with hard tackling to everyone. I find these instructions the only way to get the players to press the way I want. Closing down to everyone does not to create the panic you say will happen. You simply have not tried it.

I have these "brutal" opponent instructions and managed to make Third-tier Sakhalin the best team in Russia without ever being the team that has the most amount of yellow/red cards. I encourage everyone to do so in order to press the opponent properly.

How would you deal with a super fast wing back, either footed good at crossing and dribling, never close down never tight mark?

It is not great philosophy...tight mark the best oppostion scorer..closse down players,etc with good croseses long shot..tacling hard player with god dribling..show onto weaker leg for wingers

I set up tight marking on everybody to create a bielsa style man to man marking press and it worked really well 😎

They need to put you in the game as an Ass Man Zealand. Then I could just ask you to do my opposition instructions every game

Gave my Libero to tight mark a striker that was getting free on goal on long balls and it basically bought me a win against the top team in my division on the road as the second place team.

So there's this button. It's called "ask assistant". I use that lol. Then, in game, I tweak if there's an obvious benefit or issue.

for players I'm looking to hard tackle due to their weaknesses I like to also tight mark, that way they won't fancy those 50/50s and are often made the culprit for turning over the ball. I tend to only do this on attacking players and sometimes players in the middle of the pitch where they lack aggression, anticipation, and work rate. aside from that I mostly let the assistant dictate the rest

Perfect example of a fail here: Set both my fullbacks to man-mark opposition wingers but forgot to change my Corner routine so when they countered my fullbacks deserted the centre of the park to go man-mark whilst their Striker ran through unopposed to score a goal.

Please can we do a second video purely focussing on very good teams like Man City & Liverpool, because even with really good stat defenders, I'm still tearing my hair out trying to work out effective opposition instructions that work enough to get away draws/avoid defeat.

I don't set them at all

in my Man Utd career I always put the Always Press, Always Close, Tackle Hard and Show on Weak Foot on every front player and midfielder (for Liverpool and Man City I put this on all players except the CB's and GK) and it works for me so well every time playing a 4-3-3 - though I may start using some of this every so often

I always force week foot on wing backs and lbs and rbs, and tight mark always on any strikers and wingers. Currently 18 games unbeaten and haven’t conceded in 9 in the Serie b with a team projected 12th

The less I began to alter with the assistant managers recommendations of opposition instructions, the more successful I became. Could of course also be because my team was gradually becoming better. Now I only remove hard tackling from the center forwards and add man marking to a slow (not great dribbling) world class attacker.

Have an assistant manager who have 20 for tactical knowledge and use their advice.
