There's was a cell in future trunks timeline but there isn't a cell in timeline 2 so he has to come from timeline 5

Now we need a follow up explaining all the differing events in all 25 timelines relative to the one it split off of (so if the timeline of the goku black arc after the Kais died was 21 then timeline 20 for instance, Zamasu kills all the Kais BUT roh of universe 9 (assuming he goes clockwise across the universes) and then either A: Sidra seals Zamasu away, B: The Trio of Danger kill him (somehow) or C: Zamasu decides “you know what, that’s enough, Zeno will just erase the universes for me and no mortals, and universe 9 is weak so he’ll erase them too”

So let’s say when Trunks & Mai go to timeline 2 couldn’t they kill their identical counterparts as to not stir confusion with everyone else still alive? Or would they keep having to do that because of Whis? Maybe the creators will take a page out of the arrow verse & destroy the multiverse & make all earths/universes into one.

I’m just gonna share my opinion on this.

There is technically five canon timelines in Dragon Ball

The first timeline is where “First Future Trunks” is killed by Imperfect Cell.

That trunks goes to the Second Timeline called the “Unseen timeline” because we never see it, however DBM covered this. In this timeline, Kami refuses to let the Z-fighters into the hyperbolic Time chamber because the androids haven’t done anything wrong. Bulma creates a remote to shut down the androids permanently. This is given to Trunks, which he takes back to the first timeline I referenced.

The third timeline is where we the viewers follow future trunks we all know and love. His future is the same as the timeline 1.

The fourth timeline is where we follow the Z-Fighters, and main story takes place. After, killing timeline 1 Trunks, Cell arrives in this timeline.

The fifth timeline is where Zamasu killed The universe seven supreme Kai, and therefor, creating another timeline.

There are 7 timelines… if you are in the 6th timeline and created a 7th timeline, the version of you in that timeline would have 7 rings and you would have 6. This timeline Whis actually spoke up right when they landed after Zeno wiped the Zamasu Timeline. There is another timeline where black and zamasu are still alive

Why didn’t trunks just go to the timeline he was killed in by cell instead of having whis create a timeline for him.

The only thing you need to know, as far as explaining Dragonball, is that strong guy shows up, and Goku wants to fight him.

I Hope They Continue with The Time Travel Multiverse Storyline in the Future of Dragon Ball Super, We Need to Explore What Happened to the DBZ Movie Timeline and Answer Questions Such as What Happened to Android 17 and Android 18 in the Super Android 13 Movie.

the way i like to interpret the timelines (i havent read the manga and i dont remember every detail of the anime)

timelines once created can be traveled between eachother freely with the proper means

cell timeline
androids defeated past timeline (trunks from cell timeline traveled here)
future trunks timeline (the one we know best)
anime timeline
goku's body stolen timeline (zamasu from future trunks timeline ganked goku's body from here
alternate zamasu timeline (could possibly be the same as previous timeline)

I actually came back to this video(apparently after two years) and I really just wanted to say that there's actually ANOTHER timeline! In the Manga, Cell states he gets Frieza and King Cold's cells and there's a flashback panel of them dying by ANOTHER Future Trunks. In the anime he talks about it and specifically says a Future Trunks kills Frieza and King Cold. Meaning THAT FUTURE TRUNKS traveled INTO CELL'S timeline and then went BACK to his own! So theoretically, in the "original timeline", Goku killed Frieza and King Cold, Androids wipe out the Z Fighters, Trunks goes to CELL'S TIMELINE, comes back with the bomb blueprints to blow up Android 17 and 18, and possibly dies from the Cell of HIS TIMELINE! The thing is, HIS CELL wouldn't travel through time, because if he did he'd be in FUTURE CELL'S timeline and become perfect, co-existing with another unborn Cell and ruling that timeline!

What's most confusing is, do these new timelines create new universes? Something similar to parallel universes but parallel universes are more different than timelines because different timelines are the exact same people with maybe some characteristic or personality changes, so the correct answer is identical Universes, so what does this mean for the Cosmos? Zeno #2 is from a different timeline and not a different multiverse, not even a parallel multiverse as the two Zenos are Identical. This means there are infinite universes and not just 12 universes.

Now I know why time traveling shouldn't be tampered with as the Angels even forbid it because this creates a breach between multiple universes through different timeliness connecting them together even if the universes have been destroyed by Zeno which means the other 4 universes destroyed by Zeno aren't entirely destroyed IF a being was somehow able to time travel to where Zeno DIDN'T destroy their universe. Ever since DB introduced this God theme and plot which led to Super which then led to universes/multiverse which then opens up another can of worms, in this case, opening up a blackhole considering Goku literally did absorb a blackhole in the top arc. I wonder If Toriyama likes Cosmology and Astronomy which is why he went ballistic in Super with these concepts. 🤔

Meh, hopefully we get to see the Time Patrol and the Supreme Kai of Time if DB returns but this time obviously canon. It would be very interesting to see Chronoa's perspective on all of this timeline madness.

When Trunks got killed in the future he didn't kill 17 and 18 with his own hands but rather with a remote control plans he found plans in Dr Gero laboratory.

The one thing I’m still fuzzy on is how we have two Future Trunks? Timeline 1 is the only timeline where Future Trunks leaves for his initial mission to give Goku the medicine, yet somehow he arrives in both Timeline 3 and Timeline 6. Are we assuming that if you travel back to a point after another time traveler (Cell) has split the timeline that you will simultaneously arrive in all timelines?

I think the universe 12 time travel event split the dragon ball time-line into the dragon ball gt and dragon ball super timelines with each one having the same events up to the defeat of kid buu only diverging afterwards

The way I've understood it is that in DBZ timelines are created when paradoxes exist (such as trunks training with the z fighters killing the android or goku not dying) giving us 4 in dbz. Super ads 1 in the history lesson making it 5. Then the rings both stop and allow paradoxes making splits happen differently. Really time just get retconned in super therefore dbz time splits become different then what we were told in dbz.

While it would be sensible for Zamasu and Black to wish mortals away or to make Black immortal, it does fit their characters that they wouldn't do that. And while it is initially silly that Zeno and the grand priest don't care about time travel, that is kind of the point - followers of a god taking decrees overly literal without understanding why those decrees are made.

God I am so confused. I just wish Toriyama took more care to ensure that the story made sense but there's just endless plot holes that the fans have to figure for themselves! lol

You forgot the detail that Cell could’ve had Trunks’s dna and Gero decided against it. Meaning there’s a timeline where Future Trunks interacted with a future timeline.

Okay, so Beerus created a new timeline because he specifically murdered someone who wouldn't have died without the intervention of a time traveler. He wouldn't know to kill Zamazu if not for the information obtained by a time traveler.

This is purely incredible, I had myself asking where Trunk's timeline sits at a stupid time in the morning, I wrote it down and went back to sleep. Upon finding your video my mind has been obliterated with the amount of work that went into this. I am thankful but still none the wiser but knowing now of how many "possible" timelines has only left me with more questions.

on the “why doesn’t zamasu wish to erase all mortals” part, if he excludes the gods the gods will likely just kill him. He likely uses the mortals to gain enough strength to systematically eliminate all the gods. Or, I prefer to assume he takes pleasure in erasing mortals which is why he makes it more of a journey, going from planet to planet universe to universe killing mortals

having come back to this, originally Trunks said 19 and 20 will attack but later doesn't recognize them and says 17 and 18 are the real ones, THEREFORE THIS IS ANOTHER TIMELINE WHERE GERO AND 19 CAUSED THE APOCALYPSE AND THAT THE TRUNKS WHO GOES INTO THE TIME CHAMBER WITH VEGETA ON WENT TO A DIFFERENT PAST TO WARN THE DRAGON TEAM AT FIRST AND ENDED UP IN THE MAIN TIMELINE AFTER

About how the ring "protected" Black: If Black didn't exist, they wouldn't have killed Zamasu, as such Black would exist, that would prompt the cast to kill Zamasu. That is a paradox and that is why the ring "protected" Black.
In this case cause and effect does change place because while Zamasu was killed in his past the cast killed him in their future because they met him in their past and you can't change the past.
