How to import MKV files into DaVinci Resolve

The problem is not to find how to convert a 20GB .mkv into .mpeg in 10sec, the problem is that working with dozens of 20GB files witin a project you overload disc space with duplicates, second you run your HDD down with ongoing re-record of disk space, especially when it is a PCI-E.

Thank yo very much. It is also possible with VLC media player by the way but I ask my self since I edit videos why the editing programs can't convert the files which I drop into them. It isn't that hard I guess. Obviously there is a opensource project...

Is there a difference if i just switch my video in OBS to Mp4 before recording instead of MKV?

helloooo, so i ahve davinci resolve 17.4.4 however it doesnt let me use mkv files. when i import them, it just says media offline.

hi there i tried this and when i import it into resolve it says media offline, and when i open the file normally it says codec not supported
i know you said it's native now but i was wondering if you knew why it might say that, i followed the exact steps in your video

will this help fix my audio issue? I have a video file that has audio but when I try to use it in Davinci there is no audio attached? It is an mkv file if i convert it will it make the audio work?

That's not how to import mkv, that's how to convert mkv.

wait, so 17.2.2 let u import mkv, but 18 not anymore? what is that downstep?

I tried making a preset to try to keep it at 5.1 audio as it was recorded via OBS yet when I run it through handbrake the spoken audio is fine but the video almost doubles in size. Also, why is it taking in 5.1 audio and downmixing to stereo? I followed your video and it worked great but the question begs to be answered. Why is it downmixing to stereo?

excellent tutorial. Thank you 👍. Davinci Resolve 18 can handle MKVs but for reasons I can't figure it's been hit or miss. Some MKVs import fine and others won't even show up. Hopefully converting them solves my problem

mkv can be put into timeline directly from obs, but its not sync and AAC audio is flat. i can repack this in obs but it change my bitrate to variable. i dont know if this change my file smoothness.

I'm using Resolve 18.6 and it says MKV and MP4 are not supported file types when I try to import them.

if i import .mkv the file has no audio. how can i fix this? adobe media converter cant do it

Do you know if there has since been a faster way to import mkv into DaVinci without encoding in Handbrake? I just dont want to have to turn every movie file I have into an mp4 to only splice a few shots from lol. I currently have the latest DaVinci 18.5, but when I import mkv it still comes into the timeline without audio, video displays fine but no sound.

Sorry to say this is a bit of a dumb idear. Dont re-encode the footage degrading it at the same time. Re-Mux the video into another container that is compatible with DaVinci.

klamstwo!!! Im have DAVINCI Resolve 19 no MKV Support. Only sounds loads from video. I have 2000 videos in MKV and my camera use MTS, more than 500 videos. I cannot ENCODE ALL VIDEO and DROP DOWN all quality of video for those program.
