Thanks to auto combo of the games, it make me feel like i’m doing the cool combos that i liked which get me into the game which forces me to learn the game and the fighting game gerne as a whole. Now i’m pre ordering MK1 since i’m a fighting game lover now

great video i remember playing fighting games back in sega. btw i think doing beat em up games are also great start. they are not fighting game exactly but you learn the basic combos and also great story and co op so you can enjoy and get motivating to get better to finish the game or just beat the more level.
i never played mortal kombat shaolin monks but i know a lot of people who get into mortal kombat and fighting game overall and the start was that game.

this video actually got me into injustice 2. I played the injustice games before because I liked the story but it usually ended there. I've actually been trying to learn the combos and I can say that marcus is right when he says you can learn intricate combos. Go into the practice mode for your chosen fighting game and practice. The reward is one of the greatest feelings I've gotten from a game ever.

As Bruce Lee put it;
"Boards don't hit back."

Well, actually they do hit back, anything you hit, hits back, just as hard, as you hit it.

But still, boards don't fight back

At least, we hope they don't.
Or do we?

Another Bruce Lee quote:

"I don't fear the man who Practiced
10,000 Kicks only once - I fear the man who Practiced only 1 Kick, 10,000 times."

The thing about Fighting Games, is compliance, you'll have 2 different types of opponents:

1) Compliant, &
2) Non Compliant

Compliant Opponents are either
Practice Dummies or a Player that agrees to be compliant

Non Compliant Opponents are either the CPU or another Player, that doesn't cooperate with an opposing player, instead they fight, same as you

A Practice Dummy is compliant,
Because it's either just a Standing Target, that does whatever the Player wants, within the Options of the Practice or Training Mode

But the CPU or another Player will very likely not be compliant; and will likely be giving it their all

Arguably, the best Tournament footage I've seen: is Rivals of Aether - that was a game that started off small, not the best looking game, at 1st...

But it had heart. And a MASSIVE amount of community support behind it

Watching how Rivals of Aether developed, and seeing bits of Tournaments - EVERYONE there, was cheering, hugging, celebrating, roaring, etc - and while I never watch Game Tournaments, personally - I mostly prefer to focus my time on improving myself

But this Rivals of Aether Tournament - you can just feel the energy, the excitement, the emotion, the love...

I was sold on Rivals of Aether, from day 1 - it was like an underdog, compared to Smash Bros (both games I love equally)

And seeing the outpouring of emotion, from that RoA Tournament, didn't just hit me in the feels - for everyone involved, everyone there looked like a winner, regardless of who won or loss

More importantly, it felt like a massive victory for the game itself & genre

I remember an old Book I had.
A paperback book,
"How to Win at Video Games 2"

In this Book, the 1 piece of advice;
It gives - across ALL Games, in the
Book; was to learn about the Character,
You were playing as - how they Move,
Walk, Run, Jump, etc. Their Abilities, everything.

I remember; I an Instruction Manual,
To Turok Dinosaur Hunter, on N64:
"Before you play, it is wise to Set your
Options."

In every new Game I play, the 1st thing I
Do, is Set my Options. Then it's straight to
Practice, learning how my Character or
Characters operate - it's been a staple &
Tradition of mine, since reading the book

"How to Win at Video Games 2"

"Anyone can learn Fighting Games" - as someone who was terrible at them, way back in time before the Internet, I can personally vouch for this statement

With the right information, teaching & learning, anything is possible

I went from "I hate Fighting Games, they're all the same bs, to - Fighting Games are one of my favorite genres" - after being able to just sit down & teach myself

I'll be real here.

When I 1st played Street Fighter 2 & Mortal Kombat, I HATED THEM, because I was already dealing with people who knew all the Specials, and never bothered telling me how to do said Specials

"I'm just mashing buttons"
They claim

Right. A load of crap.
Total bullshit

Way back then, before the Internet, before Game Guides, & without any Instruction Manual to show you, how to do Specials, in Fighting Games - you had to figure out stuff, entirely on your own

It was almost bad enough, to turn me completely against Fighting Games

Way back then, when I figured out any Specials at all, that felt monumental to me

3D Fighting Games, like Soul Calibur, Tekken & Virtua Fighter, etc, because Special Moves didn't matter as much, in these Fighting Games - just knowing the basics, were enough, that, and technical gameplay style

Finally, I thought, Fighting Games I can get into

Same thing applied to Smash Bros - again, a comprehensive Fighting Game

Times change

Information is more readily available. The Internet. Game Guides. Proper Inspection Manuals. In Game Moves List, in the Pause Menu

Finally, those mysterious Special Moves, in Traditional Fighting Games, were de-mystified - those Inputs were right there, for me to learn, practice & actually do, & get down pat

So, I decided to get back into 2D / Traditional Fighting Games

Times change.
So do Games

Along came Guilty Gear

If anyone, coming off Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, etc - tries Guilty Gear or BlazBlue, you'll be in for a... a shock? A surprise? A different experience?

A more crazy - stacked - on crazy, over the top - Hard Rock & Heavy Metal infused, experience, to remember, especially the Soundtrack? That's more like it

While I learned to like Traditional Fighting Games, feeling more motivated, to actually get into these games. Beating the likes of
General M. Bison (supposed to be named Balrog lol), in Street Fighter 2, Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Eyedol & Gargos in Killer Instinct, Abyss in Soul Calibur 3, Chronos & Uranus in Bloody Roar: Primal Fury, Dural in Virtua Fighter 4, Jinpachi Mishima in Teken 5, Abyssal Gate in Rivals of Aether, Master Core in Smash Bros... Bosses that took me hundreds of Retries... and sheer grit & determination, to overcome

I took a lot away, from all this,
And other Game genres - racing, RTS, MMO, Puzzle, RPG, FPSs, SHMUPS, Souls like, Monster Hunter like, Mega Man & similar platformers... and of course, Fighting Games

I learned to take the knowledge, wisdom, reflexes, drive, & determination & persistence, & logic, from each game & genre, & apply them to everything in gaming, regardless of genre

I mostly learned on my own, being self taught - especially in Guilty Gear - a game keeps me coming back, hungry for more,
(BlazBlue being no different)

Guilty Gear, since the original, has a way of making me wanna come back to it - maybe it's the Songs. Or the anime style graphics. Or the Characters, or gameplay...

I've come to develop a sense of;
In a game as fun as Guilty Gear, I rarely feel like a failure, (unless I'm stick on those damn Missions - I was never good at the Combo Trials - I preferred creating my own Combos) - because I don't mind any loss, in the Online Play & Tower - besides my place in the Tower, what's there to loose?

To me, what Floor I'm on, doesn't so much matter, as does the fact that I'm simply playing what's now 1 of my favorite Fighting Games, either against the CPU or other Players

In this sense, there's no "failure" if I loose - just a learning experience to reflect on - if I had done it differently, or remembered to Guard or Burst at that critical juncture, or if I'd gotten that 1 Move off... also - Failure is just a reason to give it another go

Hell - if you can get through Mission Mode, you're past 1 of the hardest parts in Strive - sheer persistence, patience, grit, determination - and LOTS of Retries - and LOTS of cursing

I'm only 2 Missions away from 100% - 5 Star, Application of Roman Cancel & Wall Break Combo - both of which I can't seem to beat - but I did glean valuable insight - especially when you can just Create Combos or
Recreate Scenarios, in Combo Creator, a Mode that's heaven sent

I'm definitely looking to ascend the Tower - they say "only the strongest may enter the 10th Floor" - and I wanna know what's up there. I beat the Entrance Challenge, and was on 6th Floor, from the Start

And this is coming from someone who started off despising Fighting Games way back when - because I didn't have the time to sit down & just try them out, on my own - it was only then - that I learned to improve myself, and realize, they're not so bad - you just need time to learn & be taught to play them properly

My number 1 most played fighting game ever is a game that I initially started off hating with a passion. King of Fighters is a very complex game with multiple different ways to preform the same specials for different characters. All it took was me playing terry for the first time in Mark of the Wolves for me to realize that oh shit.... I love this game. I have been an avid fan ever since. I can't at that in good at KOF, or that I'll ever be good enough to go pro, but that doesn't stop me from playing every entry until I've mastered at least 3 characters (since it is a 3v3 heavy game) every game ij the series has its own merrits and I love each one dearly. That being said Mark of the Wolves needs a remaster so badly. It's such a good game and I hate how little it's talked about

I agree with this I've been playing for a long time and the big thing that I say to new people is to practice and start with a character that my not be your first pick but is a bit easier it learn the base kit to the game. I play Ryu, and juri for street fighter. I'm glad this video is here to help encourage new players

To me nothing will top the melee days. When I learned about wavedashing it felt like a secret technique that in order to compete had to get down. I used link and I trained at that game, worked out and read for a summer. When I played with friends I bodied them all and found some others who played competitive who I actually surprised though they were way better. Nothing beat the competitive scene of that game

wow congrates you motivated me to try to try learning db fighterz i used to watch this one channel of three guys play the game and i learned i loved the artstyle and i grew up with dragon ball. fast foward a year and a half later and i got the game for myself but i really struggled to learn even though i was useing the training modes a lot to learn the combos but i could never remember them outside of training i played through most of the story tmode to get comfy but i still hadent memorized not one characters entire move set, online i got to the point to where i was doing cool stuff on axident and i would rarley when a match and when i did win i felt like it was luck because i doged their attacks and then used the only one or two combos i knew in the morning imma give the game another go. cuz right now the only fighting game im super good at is smash bros series of games but iv always wanted to branch out to others but they always felt so intimidateing to learn in a way that smash bros never did so thanks

You and FF16 convinced me to invest some time and effort to learn a fighting game 😁
Although FF16's combat is more like DMC type, but I'm having a great fun with "combos". Some eikon abilities work better in combinations then others, and I realized that along my walkthrough I'm really focusing on making calculated moves to smash an enemy in a quickest way possible instead of just going all-in with all my abilities. Apart from that I started to learn what this combat mechanic has to offer in a local training mode. This reminded me of what players do in fighting games.
And after watching your video I caught this anime challenge vibe and will definitely take some time to enjoy SF6 not only randomly bashing buttons, but trying to impove as a player.

I recently got into fighting games when Injustice 2 came out and everything you said I agree with. I used to hate them because I would just lose all the time and didnt understand how or why things were happening. I would button mash and occasionally do something cool but I didnt like fighting games therefore stayed away and played everything else. Years later Ive learned so much and I started competing in DBFZ. Traveled to different tournaments won some monthly’s, made it out of pools at a few majors including EVO. Fighting games truly are amazing and the satisfaction you get is unreal. I especially like the skill gap. You cant cheat using hacks like auto aim or wall hacks in shooters. You actually have to earn your ranking. I would say the other game with the same level of satisfaction that you cant cheat in is Rocket league and learning that is a whole different beast. Fighting games have grown a lot over the years and continue to

I really dont get it when people say fighting games are difficult. Just learn to play against the computer and then find people of your own level.
And, why get pissed if you are fighting with someone much better than you? It is obvious you are gonna lose. I'd rather be salty if I lose with someone about my level.

I have played actively fighting games since the very beginning in the mid 80's and broke tons of time attack and survival mode records in Tekken Tag 1, Soul Calibur, Tekken 5 DR and others.

HOWEVER i only started playing fighting games online during Tekken 7. I first got hooked watching Tekken 7 tournaments but was scared to play online because i thought losing would feel too personal.
And right before i played my first match i thought it's a shame fighting games aren't as great as FPS games online because i couldn't imagine how anyone could play simple 1 on 1 rounds for more than maybe max 350 hours during the game's lifetime.

Then i had my first matches and realised right away that even though i was an expert in playing against the CPU i had zero idea of the mechanics of the game against people and in that moment fighting games opened my eyes and changed my life! They instantly became my favorite genre ever and i've clocked 2300 hours in my first 4 years in Tekken 7 and just started learning SF 6 also.
