We have these in nz. But there are plenty of original ones from the 80s and 90s kicking about so if they are pretty much the same you mite be better off buying an older one and saving yourself some cash

I like everything except the leg room and the engine is way to big for what you need old versions had a four cyl that was all you need .that was fine.

I bought a brand new 2020 76 series and am yet to fall in love with it, but I think our union will endure. An auto would transform the 76 series.

Why don't you guys go and review other vehicles. Anyone who buys the 70 series, whether its a 79,76,78 troopy, knows its a renovators dream, there's millions of accessories. Your also paying for reliability and arguably the greatest vehicle ever made. The 70 series cruiser is the only vehicle i would trust with my life in the outback or overseas.

I live in Canada and we don't have the 70 series here. I do wish we did though, I would totally buy one.

I've been looking at 70s for a while. Apart from new car warranty - I'm struggling to see why anyone would pick one of these over an 80 series and have a spare 70k left over? Unless you actually needed a ute then fair enough.

Also this tester says they have bags of torque, this thing has less torque than a HiLux, they are very poor for towing.

I’m guessing they only really make it for cashed up buyers who liked it when new; and why change a good thing? Trying to restore an original one to the same level or reliability would be a challenge. Just buy new old!

However, there are far better modern options available now. For the same capability, you can add live axles on the front. Much harder to somehow turn a 1984 vehicle into something modern. Car manufacturers take years and billions to do that. And they are working pre-build. Not something already sitting on your driveway.

I must be losing it, but in American units, that's a 34 gallon tank at 21 miles a gallon..... That thing supposedly gets over 700 miles of range and you're calling it THIRSTY!?

The Troopy (VDJ78) is a much better 5-seater vehicle than the 76 - longer wheelbase, high roof so heaps of headroom, more room in the back than anything else on the road and the Troopy still comes with twin 90L fuel tanks that can be isolated. Better ride from the longer leaf springs.

Can engage 4wd on the fly - just like any other Landcruiser over the past 70 years - just make sure the front hubs are locked. Gotta stop to go into low range - same as any other 4wd.

I would buy one in a heart beat. Why?? It’s a TOYOTA and yes it will last 40 plus years. ❤️
